From a December 2006 BA review: 330ml Green bottle, 4.5% according to the label, poured into a ’Straffe Hendrik’ bowl glass. No head apart from a very thin wispy collar around the glass, very light golden yellow, with bubbles rising towards the headless top. No aroma and no taste, rice maybe, my tastebuds had a laugh with me, I thought it was sweet at first, then a heavy dryness appeared and is all I can comment on, it does stay dry in the mouth, but it is not a beer I could recommend, even with a curry.

Small offwhite coarseish head doesn’t last. Clear yellow body with light carbonation. Light perfumy jasmine aroma with floral notes. Dry-sweet mealy jasmine taste with floral notes. Mid-to-light body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish floral perfumy jasmine aftertaste. OK, so this beer is the same all the way through. Fairly nice, certainly drinkable, and perhaps even slightly subtle. (0.64l bottle, Wellcome, Lohas Park, Hong Kong.)

22/IV/2012 - 33cl bottle from Colruyt (Ledeberg) @ Bouvier's place - BB: 5/IX/12 (2012-395) Thanks to Bouvier for the beer!

Aroma: some marijuana right upon opening the bottle, urine, lemon, pretty bad. Clear pale yellow beer, big white aery head, unstable, little adhesive. MF: ok carbon, light body. Taste: some bitterness, pretty sweet, very tasteless in general. Aftertaste: some lemon zest, little bitter. Oh well, another country ticked!

Bottle, looked very tempting but the first mouthful turned this into a big disappointment. No trace at all of the brewery’s German ancestry. Bland, with no hop bitterness, just the usual thin beer you get when using rice as a main ingredient. Instantly forgettable!

500 ml can. Says "Pure Draft" in Chinese, 10 plato. Alcohol listed as 3.6. Pale yellow with little head. Nose of diacetyl and peaches. Butterscotch. Flavor of peach and butterscotch, very light, thin, nothing at all nice, though I could finish it if I had to. Cardboard too. A bit of pepper in the finish. Not really offensive, but not really anything.

Originally rated April 2005. China’s number one beer pours a light golden colour with a medium white head. The retention is not bad and the lacing is quite good. The first scent was sign of skunk (green bottle). After breathing a bit, you could detect sweet malt and some grass. This brew is above average in carbonation. The taste is slightly sweet with some hop finish. Pretty smooth and clean. They say on their site that the yeast and barley they use is imported from Canada... woohoo ! Good pilsner-style brew for those chinese supper.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall but fading fast light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, raisins, caramel and a touch of a bit of roasted malt. Medium to Full-bodied; Deep chocolatey malt flavour at first with some nuts, caramel, toffee and a lot of prunes. Aftertaste is quite robust with nothing large and opaque, just a nice earthy, malty flavour with a ton of sweetness and a decent amount of alcohol coming through - especially for the brewery, you don’t expect this at all. Overall, a rather nice stout with some good true flavours with a long-lasting flavour that would go well with some earthier flavoured food here. I sampled this 33cL can purchased from CitySuper! Grocery Store at 2 IFC in Central, Hong Kong, SAR China on 10-August-2010 sampled at home in Washington a few days before setting back out to Hong Kong, in which I could imagine drinking this with some noodles from Tsim Chai Kee or Mak’s a few blocks away on Wellington in Central.

Weak looking lager, but has a decent enough fusion of regular and rice brewing.

33cl bottle. Pale golden colour with a minimal formation of white head. Aroma is slightly corny and sweet. Flavour is light, soft and with a watery final. Carbonation is soft to medium. Body is light.
