Bottle shared at the Scopey 5K tasting - big thanks to the host for this one. Vintage 1987. Pours clear, light gold with no head. Golden raisins in the nose with nips of toffee as well. Medium sweet flavor with old fruits, brown sugar, mild bread. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Sugary finish with light cardboard, more brown sugar and toffee. OK for its age.

Bottle shared at the Scopey 5K tasting - big thanks to the hosts for this one. Vintage 1987. Pours clear, dark brown with minimal head. Definite oxidation in the snout, some leathery dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with sugary bread, grapes, berries, raisins. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation and mildly oily texture. Sugary sweet finish with dark bread and sugary, ripe berries. Not bad.

Tart, aged berries on the nose with moderate oxidation and dried, bready malts. Light sweet flavor with semi-dark malts, berries, bread. Light to medium bodied with fine, perhaps flat carbonation. Moderate sweetness to finish with light, tangy dried cherries and plums. Decent.

The nose holds wet wood, dried berries, golden raisins. Light-medium sweet flavor with mellow oxidation, toffee, faint coffee, brown bread. Light bodied and mostly flat. Sweet finish with more bready malts, candied sugars, figs. For what it is, really not bad at all.

Bottle at my 5K tasting. 1987 bottle. It pours deep brown with a small bubbly beige head. The nose is papyrus, earth, musty, old must, pretty damn sweet, caramel and treacle. The taste is sweet, caramel, must, treacle, no alcohol to speak of, candy, sugar and faint aniseed. Light carbonation and light body. 1D and sweet, but not undrinkable.

Bottle at my 5K tasting. 1988 bottle. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is wood, cocoa, toast, caramel oxidised notes and earth. The taste is tangy dark fruits, a touch watery, cocoa, caramel, faint tartness and wood with a dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Carbonation still good for what. Actually not too bad. Not bad for an oldie.

Bottle at my 5K tasting, Feb 1987. It pours deep brown with a bubbly beige head. The nose is musty, dark fruit, light oxidised, jam, toffee, brown bread, plum and blackcurrant. The taste is wood, earth, brown bread, must, wood, leather, toast, oxidised notes and burnt caramel with a dry finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Much better than expected! Actually not too bad. OK for the age.

Aroma has lots of raisins, some alcohol and distant moldy cellar tones. Flavour is odd with raisins, moldy tones, cardboard, alcohol and licorice. Definitely past its prime but not completely bad.

Bottle from Charleston Beer Exchange. It pours golden amber with pretty much no head. The nose is mellow, damp wood, mustiness, dull sourness, faint vinegar, peach, apricot, vanilla and coconut. The taste is smooth, earthy, wood, peach, apricot, nectarine, light sourness, wood, hay, spice and alcohol warmth towards the finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Easy-going stuff. I actually quite like the aged and sour aspect to this! Interesting and fun to try.

275 ml bottle from 2001 sampled in 2006. Beautiful almost clear copper red body with a small tan head. Vinous aroma with dry fruit, slightly acidic berries, oak and noble caramel. Flavor is sweet, smooth malty, dry fruit, acidic berries, wood and pleasant oxidized old sherry. Fine body and wonderful aftertaste. A classic made for sipping.
