Bottle split at Scopey’s 5K Extravaganza of Oompah Band meets doorbell music - vintage interlude with big thanks to Mac Lovejoy aka Don Paulo - 15/02/14. Sieve served by the Don himself ! 1988 vintage. Dark chestnut brown with a moderate off white head. Nose is raisens, prunes, toffee, oxidised twang, earthy. Taste comprises mellow sherry tones, earthy, light oxidisation, dirt, toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. This was the best of the Vintage Gales for me. I’ve had too many beers this year that are supposedly fresh that haven’t been as good as this!

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. 2001 bottle. Murky brown. Lovely aroma of malt, chocolate, lots of dark fruits, a bit of sherry and liqueur. Sweetish-sourish flavor, malt and fruity with some cookie notes and chocolate. Interesting.

Scopey 5K Tasting in deepest Croydonia. 1987, thanks to Paul. Clear amber - brown beer. Smooth palate, whisper of carbonation. Oxidised caramel. Even the oxidisation has oxidisation! Little paper. Knackered.

Scopey 5K Tasting in deepest Croydonia. Thanks to Paul for this 27 year old Stout. Clear deep brown beer, no real head. Smooth palate, no carbonation. Oxidised caramel malt with a dusting of drinking chocolate powder. Light finish. Hard to escape the fact that this one is properly knackered.

Very light sourness. Whisper of chocolate - caramel with some inevitable oxidisation. Touch of dried fruits. Smooth finish. Actually this is okay.

Scopey 5K Tasting in deepest Croydonia. Thanks to the main man for this 1987 vintage! Almost clear brown beer with a few off white bubbles. Big oxidised caramel on the snout. Smooth light palate with next to no carbonation. Smooth caramel, oxidised. Touch of ripe fruits. Light finish. Tastes better than it smells and all things considered it is still possible to get some enjoyment from this.
