275 ml bottle sampled in 2010. A reddish amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit, alcohol and some oxidation. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit and alcohol like sherry or port. Some degree of oxidation, but not in a bad way. Feels both robust and smooth at the same time. Full body and long aftertaste.

Hazy dark red amber beer, no head. Dark toffee and wet wood nose, sour cherry too! Zero carbonation. Oxidised malt - chocolate and caramel. A little sour cherry and a trace of balsamic vinegar. Finishes sour cherry. Pretty intense and clearly aged. It works - just!

Vintage 1996 bottle at the Chriso Fullers Vintage Tasting, London. I brought this one along. Pours cloudy, amber-brown with a few bubbles for a head. Tangy fruits in the nose, some definite aged malts. Interesting flavor, medium sweet with leathery and tangy fruits, berries, slight herbal bitterness, some overripe semi-dark fruits. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation. Warming finish with big leather character, wet wood, semi-dryness, leathery fruit aftertaste. Not bad. (3.6)

Vintage 2005 bottle at Chriso Fullers Vintage Tasting, London. Pours very cloudy brown with just a few bubbles. Aged malt nose, some hints of caramel. Light to medium sweet flavor with dry fruits, light caramel, some sweet cake. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Lightly warming finish, leathery, faintly tangy, with a bit more caramel. So so. (3.4)

From bottle at Copehagen Beer Festival: aroma and taste of garden berries, vinous and delicious. A beer to savour in company with your best friends. My best experience at the festival, truly unforgettable. Ny rating, ombord på Fridtjofen april-14: korken trekkes opp og duften brer seg på dekket. Ingen karbonering. Litt sur. Aromaen var det beste med denne. Ikke en god avslutning på kvelden. Ned fra 4.6 til 2.7. How very disappointing.

27,5 cl vax-top bottle vintage 2005 (BBE 12/2010) @ Ølfestival København 2012
Opened with a screw and pliers due to the lack of opener
Aroma is sour with cherries and earthy notes. Also some oak. No CO2 on palate. Flavour has redcurrants, some sour cherries and earthy notes. Dry finish with some warming alcohol. Quite different from the new Prize Old Ale.

5/10/7/13/13/11

Bottle @ chriso. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel and toffee aroma. Sweetish malty toffee flavor with weak dark fruit hints and also weak cherry hints. Has a fruity malty toffee and dark fruit finish.

Bottle at chriso’s Fullers/Gales Tasting, thanks to Paul. Pours cloudy, amber-gold with a fine, bubbly head. Ripe fruits and honey in the aroma. Very sweet flavor, lots of candies, caramel, alcohol and toffee, as well as ripe fruits. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Mild warming finish, alcohol notes, sweet and ripe fruits, mild tang, slight age comes through, a bit of caramel. Pretty nice. I would say definitely NOT a re-badge of POA.

Bottle at Chriso’s Fullers-Gales Tasting, purchased a few years back from the Fuller’s brewery. It pours cloudy orange-amber, with a thin off-white film. The nose is toffee, sticky fruit, Christmas cake and spice (much sweeter than the regular 2006 POA). The taste is full of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, lots of wood and some dried fruit, with a warming finish. Full body and fine, prickly carbonation. Much sweeter and less fruit than the regular POA 2006 and missing the great sweet-sour aspect that makes POA so enjoyable.
