Cask. Chestnut colour, white head. Bitter, slightly watery flavour with slightly watery aftertaste. Not as bad as it sounds, even though it is a bit boring.

An unclear brown beer with a disappearing head. The aroma is dusty combined with overripe fruits and berries. The flavor is like the aroma with a very dry background.

Hazy amber color. Strong aroma: malt, fruits (caramelized pears, apples and apricots; raisins), some phenol, light liquorice, wallnuts. Sweet, malt and sweet liquorice taste. Not enough bitter. Good Barley Wine.

Murky brown. Deeply fruity aroma (plum, peach, orange). Rich palate - deep malts and fruits as listed above with brown sugar and red wine. Very nice.

A hazy amber beer with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of yeast, acid, and hops. The flavor is sweet and very hoppy combined with notes of oil, grass, and caramel.

I got mine at the same store as Rajendra82 while in town for the GA 14% gathering. 1999 Vintage. Ruddy brown pour, absolutely flat, no head, no lacing. Aroma like Congnac, alcoholic, but also a potpourri of dried fruits and spicyness as it warms. The flavor changes direction. A very vinous flavor, with a wine like dryness at the end. A touch of sourness is there also. Not what I expected, but worth a try.

This old ale pours like prune juice. Pretty much has the same head as prune juice too. Slightly cloudy with a dark reddish colour. Strong odours of red wine and yeast with citrus and grape notes. First sip was strong tasting. Sharp to the palate with almost a raisin flavour. Almost like a port or sherry or even vermouth. Carbonation was also very sharp. Finish was lightly bitter with more rotten fruit flavour. Palate was the taste of Vermouth that I couldn't rid myself of.

2002 bottle. Pours a golden-yellow raisin color with some copper-oranges and light red tinges. Very unique color. No head, but that was a given. No lacing. Aroma has light sweet raisins, lightly sweet toffee, some caramel, chocolate, hints of white grapes and a bit of yeast. Hops give a touch of bitterness in the aroma. Flavor is immediately salty and musty, becoming quite vinous, muscat grapes, yet sweeter than that with plenty of figs, raisins (I mention raisins alot in this review, but it really reminded me of CA golden raisins), and a good raw grainy taste. There is a lovely sherry quality to the finish which is significantly more dry and complex. Gale's ales really shine on the finish and this one is no exception. Plenty of hops come out and there is a lovely bitterness mixed with light yellow fruits, toffee and a good subtle warming sensation from the alcohol. Moderately acidic, touch of syrupyness, and not nearly as watery textured as usual for this brewery. Medium-full body. A big case of seeing the quality and rating as such, but really not caring for it all that much.

Cloudy brown head. Lively head that dissipates quickly. Lambic-ish aroma with notes of cherries. Thick mouthfeel. Complex (or is it unbalanced?) sourish/salty flavour with more cherries. Dry, oaky finish. The three bottles I've got left will go deep down into my cellar and stay there for a long time.
