Cask at Square Bottle, Chester. Pours golden yellow with a small foamy off-white head and good lacing. There’s yeast and floral hops in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet with a creamy texture and a little underlying bitterness. Flavour has floral hops and tangerines and later some underlying caramel and herbal traces. Sweetness lasts into the slightly dry finish. It’s reasonable enough.

Cask at Calverts Court, Stockport. Pours a dark ruby with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly malts with some hints of dark fruits. In the mouth it is slightly sweet with a creamy texture with plenty of malts in evidence plus cherries and a hint of ginger. Some cola comes through later as well. Finish is slightly bitter. This is a pretty good traditional bitter.
