Description
Arkell’s Brewery was established in 1843 by John Arkell and 175 years later, is one of less than thirty family breweries remaining in the UK. As Swindon’s oldest business, Arkell’s has kept its founding values alive and continues to produce local beer for local customers. These values have been continued by the four family members in charge today; Chairman James Arkell, his cousin Nick Arkell, Head of Sales, and James’ sons George Arkell, and Alex Arkell are Managing Director and Head Brewer respectively.

Cask pint in my local Wetherspoons on 5th Dec 2014. Poured a good, bright amber colour with a thin white head. Mixed fruit and malty taste, very little aroma: got sweeter in flavour as it warmed a little in the glass. Although it had almost no smell I still enjoyed it. Almost had another pint, but I managed to drag myself away and home before I started a session (it was lunchtime when I had it).

Cask @ GBBF 2014. Quite dark for a Golden Ale. The beer starts malty, fresh. Easy to drink with earthy hints. The malty body is very subtle so there is a nice taste of the hops. The mainpart is flowery earthy, easy to drink with only a moderate bitterness. On the tongue remains a smooth, fresh and nice earthy aroma with a low bitterness. Nice!

Cask handpump at The Bell Inn, Purton, nr Cricklade, Wiltshire. Friday 4th July 2014 Pours mid gold hazy, touch of burton snatch on nose. It’s as I expected, served suprisingly quite cold, but not suffering for it. Fruity with a light bitterness throughout its tangy, fine. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3
