Description
In the wide-skied arable lands of Holderness, down a tree-lined lane, lies Great Newsome Brewery. Here you will find beers for all seasons and all-year drinking.

We don’t try to reinvent the wheel. We keep it simple, using superb natural ingredients to make beer that you can sit back and enjoy, without even thinking about it. Which in our opinion is the sign of a very good pint indeed. It’s traditional craft beer with a modern twist.
Growing our own malting barley gave us a good start and we have since developed special strains of yeast as well as experimenting with homegrown hops, although they are difficult this far north.
Visiting our shop, you’ll be sure of a tail wagging welcome from our English Springer Spaniels, descendants of the late Jem, our mascot who is fondly remembered on bottle labels and draft beer bar tags.

Cask @ Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury. Pours deep ruby, tan head. Aroma is sweet, toffee. Taste is lovely, sweet and warming for the strength. Nice toffee and dark fruits. Fades a little by the end, but for the most part a delicious dark mild.

500ml bottle at home on 1st April 2016. Poured into an Abbot Ale pint glass tankard. Very dark body, slight ruby hue to the black colour, on top a tanned foaming crown. Malts rule the brew, some chocolate and coffee esters in the aroma, hints of liquorice within the choc/coffee flavouring. Fairly smooth and soft mouthfeel, a gentle but tasty Stout from start to finish. Also had a cask half pint in the Snickleway Inn, York on 19th May 2026.

Bottle from Keelham Farm Shop, Thornton. Clear golden with a light easy drinking pale ale texture, that’s slightly dry tasting as well as tropical fruity in taste.
