Bottle. Yellow-blonde in colour, next to no head. Has a pale ale character but a less than medium body that makes the already light hoppy fruitiness evident in its aroma even less so in taste.

Bronze. Aroma is a bit gluey. A little heavy on the overripe canteloupe. That’s all I taste. Bleh.

Bottle. Very very dark, although not fully black. No head. Has a good nose, certainly with the advertised liquorice with is abundant in both aroma and taste and a full sweetness.

Cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge on 19th February 2014. Copper with very little head and no lace. Sweet caramel aroma. Toffee flavour in-mouth with sweet barleysugar and unsweetened orange. Sweet caramel finish with a little citrus. Light body and mouthfeel.

Cask @ Golden Pheasant, Biggleswade. Light thin brown colour. Malty, raisin aroma, not very strong. Taste is very agreeable: sweet fruit rounding to bitter edges. A well made and moreish best bitter, a good representative of the style.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 23/1/2014. Deep brown with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, brown sugar and rich malts, with a slight earthiness and gentle finish. Undemanding drinking.

On tap at the Cask and Barrel. Appearance - amber with a nice head. Nose - malt and resin. Taste - toffee some biscuits but slight astringency. Palate - light to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a slightly astringent finish. Overall - solid but not special.

500ml Bottle: BBD end of Feb 14, poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged vase shaped pint glass at home on 14th Jan 14. Looked good, a full but thin covering on top of a ruby/mahogany body, clear and bright. Very fruity nose with a sweet front. The taste is also sweet and fruity, with some chocolate notes in the flavours too. The malts rule this beer from start to finish with the hops hidden below the surface keeping the sweetness in check. Good body depth and a thoroughly enjoyable brew.
