Description
Previous name: "irrificio Ostiense Artigianale".

We were born in 2004 on the seashore of Rome thanks to the love (and passion) for beer made with artisanal methods of our founders, Elio Miceli and Massimo Salvatori, who produced raw beer without any treatment at their Brew Pub located in Ostia on the Roman coast, right in front of the sea.

Then in 2005 thanks to the skills achieved, the experience gained, but above all thanks to the meeting with the master brewer Ioan Bratuleanu, we began to broaden our range of action by increasing and diversifying production. The great demand of our beers led us in 2010 to the opening of our plant in Fiumicino, a few kilometers from Ostia, effectively inserting us into the market of producers of craft beers with our brands Birradamare and Birra Roma.

In July 2017 Birradamare became part of the international Molson Coors group.

One of those new (and often exciting) Italian micro brews, in this case celebrating the city of Rome and intended to accompany Roman cuisine... Pours a deep, slightly brownish cloudy amber colour with dark bits of dead yeast here and there, under a medium thick, crackling, greyish white head. Pleasant aroma of fresh orange peel, walnuts, mango, grapes, pink grapefruit, gingerbread, peach, baker’s yeast, autumn leaves, leather, cantaloupe, banana. Adding the yeast deposit expectedly gives more of the fruity esters. Fruity onset, mango and unripe peaches, orange peel freshness, progressing to become very yeasty with powdery mouthfeel, nutty malt sweetishness, slightly toasted with soft carbonation, ending in a leafy and lightly citrussy hop bitterishness, dryish; the yeastiness lingers a bit, as well as the nutty maltiness. Pleasant thirst quencher, but the body is on the thin side. Are we sure this is a Märzen? Seems more like a top-fermented beer to me, like an English bitter or a ’spéciale belge’...

Bottle from Barrique Odijk, BB 01 2015, large sample. Hazy amber color with quite some small debris floating around, medium frothy off-white head. Aroma is spicy, slight caramelly, butterscotch, hint of toffee, hint of smoke. Bit sweet in taste, slight bitter. Medium carbonation, bit thin body. Decent enough beer though.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Yoav’s place. Thanks Yoav. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma of yeast, citric and floral hops, fruity esters, some graininess and a bit of spiciness. Flavor has light sweetness, yeast, a bit of spiciness, a grainy touch, some fruitiness, citric and floral hops and a bitterish finish. Light to medium-bodied. Refreshing. I would’ve never guessed this is a lager, tastes more like a somewhat hoppy Belgian-style Blonde Ale.
