Cask at the Pup and Duckling, Solihull. Poured a crystal clear yellow golden colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, yeasty, earthy, light woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading. Golden-amber with an off-white head. Sweetish start with some floral notes, bubblegum and strawberry jam. More traditional notes of caramel and citrus come through, but it still tastes quite fresh and lively. A little more interesting than your average bitter. Nice one.

Cask @ Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Mahogany coloured with a thick off-white creamy-frothy head. Its texture is softer than expected for its strength. Dark-malty with a sweetness.

Bottle online from Beers Of Europe. Pours a clear light copper colour with a thin soapy looking white head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, toasty bread and some fruity notes. Taste has lots more toffee and caramel, bread and biscuits with peppery spice and earthy hops on the lingering dry finish. Malty at first and then a hoppy bitterness kicks in. Medium to full body, fairly low carbonation and oily mouthfeel. Pretty decent traditional Ale.

Thin beige head on an unclear amber coloured body. Fruity, bitter & malt aroma. Medium bodied smooth on the tongue thinning out to a dry clean back. Berries, caramel, grain & light malt tastes with a long bitter finish. Tastes like a 1970's bitter - Excellent.

Another beer that I don’t seem to have reviewed despite drinking it on several occasions. Anyway, this time it was cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Cream and malts are to the fore in the aroma. In the mouth it is mainly sweet but with bitterness lurking beneath the surface. Flavour has raisins, toffee and malts with hints of chocolate and figs. Finish is slightly bitter. This is nice – but more a strong ale than a porter.
