Well, most of ’em didn’t survive but I suppose that’s as much as you could expect. Nonetheless no one knows who really done won the war, some say it was the allies, some say it was the Swiss banks. So anyways it was great to see Sean Connery in such a seminal role and I gots ta tells ya that the action was great, a three hour movie can be a serious bore but this one was serious business. Wonder what they’s done thoughts of it backs in the day, 1962? Hells no you ain’t gonna gets ta drink a can of beer in the cinema in Canada at least, in spite of the men who died in Normandy. So Fucx alls y’alls who made these laws in spite of our men’s sacrifices, I can only imagine a soldier dead from D-Day coming back to Vancouver to find out he can’t drink a beer while watching that movie.... he’d frickin’ flippin’ lose it. As I did. But nonetheless this has got ain okay white head and wit kinda yellow body with no carbonation. The aroma is nice hints of grain, wheat notes, simple but appemetizing. Flavour is more wit notes with a medium finish. This is a good brew, not a great one, not a transcendental one, not a buy-a-plane-ticket-now kinda one. But nonetheless it’s okay, perhaps something to chase a good B.C. ice wine on a hot summer’s night. John Wayne tho man, John Wayne. Whattamutthafukka. Serio’sly.

Oh shit, they’re landing on Omaha beach right now at 6:32am. They’re gonna lose the war all because the Fuhrer took a sleeping pill and cannot be wakened. And get that Napoleon Cognac outta my office, never been opened, been waiting for a special time but this will have ta gotta do. "Hello ol’ chap, seems I lost my way landin’ into your Paris palace..." the Brit says to the Kraut. Can you not hear the invasion? Those 5000 ships you said they didn’t have, well they’re here!! The Longest Day I gots ta tells ya, this one has a strong grapefruit nose and good head with foggy gold body. It was just a late night marriage but he took it seriously! Vive La France!! Like, you should get down to your cellar dude, those Americain ship cannons ain’t messin’ aroond. Flavour is strong hops with just a hint of malt, very dry and sour finish - just the ways we likes ’em. Shit, another 2 hours to go in this thing I bet the guys who assaulted the beach didn’t have to wait this long. "Your chances of a long sleep just went up, we’re going to fight the invasion". Yeah, the good ol’ days - but I still think Lee Marvin is the shit that John Wayne wouldn’t dream of dreamin’ of.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out lots of piney hops and some nice tropical fruity notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with piney hops, tropical fruits and caramel malts. Rather floral on the finish. Decent.

Tasting at Ferris’
Cloudy golden color, small head. Funky aroma, a bit chemical. Lean mouthfeel, a lot of funky flavors, some juicy malt, but also too much yeast and some vegetable bitterness.
Wild IPA is not a great idea, this beer is drinkable, but dirty.

Bottle - Lots of tropical fruit and some maple syrup notes. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Sweet and light leafy herbal botes. Some perfume and a decent finish. Decent.

Light golden/straw colour. The aroma is estery and hints at a cloying sweetness...it’s not that enticing. On the palate, the beer is better. Seems well-attenuated, with a light body, and a surprising dryness in the finish, at least relative to the aroma. This allows the esters to be balanced. Still weird they position themselves as a Belgian-style specialist, given how meh their Belgians are and how well they make hoppy beers.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Hazy amber color. Light aroma of rotten apples. Strong body, it has some residual sweetness, again that feeling of rotting apples, light fruity esters, and a woody, unpleasant bitterness in the final.
Difficult to control high-gravity fermentation…
Not very good.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear cooper / amber with a small beige head. Aroma is subtle, with notes of Belgian yeast and candied sugar. Flavour is nastily sweet, with cloying-as-hell candied sugar and Belgian yeast. Cough syrup finish. Everything I hate about North American attempts at tripels. Nasty amount of residual sugar. Very bad.

Not sure why these guys’ beers get burned so much - they are actually pretty decent on the whole. Hay and some citrus. Hazy amber pour.

Citrus and light roast. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Some chocolate. Good balance, and good hybrid. Light bitter finish. Bottle.
