On tap at Rokko Garden in Kobe. Now this was more like it~! It poured a nice amber brown with a thick head of foam. The aroma was a very mild smokiness at malt sweetness at first which became more pronounced as the beer warmed up from the frigid serving temperatures. It was ridiculously easy to drink with a nice malt, caramel roasty smoke finish once it warmed up I got more smoke and some notes of bacon too. It was great from start to finish! Fujizakura’s is better but this is a very nice beer. I think Rokko’s gotten better than they were 3-4 years ago and they’re making a wider range of beers these days (8 kinds) which is great but they play it a bit safe as they don’t want to scare Japanese people who aren’t used to flavorful beers I think.

On tap at Rokko Garden in Kobe. Probably one of the most disappointing beers I’ve had recently. It poured a crystal clear straw color with a nice head of foam which right away had me wondering "Is this the weizen???" It was served a bit too cold so the aroma was minimal, so much so I checked with the staff if it wasn’t the pilsner! After warming up there were slight fruity notes but zero spiciness which you normally get from a weizen. It is not at all to style and was the worst weizen I’ve had, I am still not convinced it is really a weizen...

Hyogo Oktoberfest, October 18, 2009. Pale amber color. Fruity, ale-like aroma with light smoke and honey. Nicely smoky flavor-lightish but enough, with honey, good malt, slight fruit. Well-balanced and tasty.

Draught at the 2009 Hyogo Oktoberfest. Earthy and fruity, with creamy wheat and a bit of banana and clove, plus a touch of vanilla. Clean tasting with no problems. Light and creamy with both good wheat and good hop flavor.

Draught at the 2009 Hyogo Oktoberfest. Bit chocolate and caramel aroma. Malty chocolate flavor, a bit dirty. Rather fruity, with a bit of sour. Low hopping but not at all cloying. Ok.

Tap at the brewery tap. Buttery, sweet malt aroma. Slightly overbearing. Slightly thin in color and head. Sweet, buttery flavor. Overblown. Not bad, but a bit cheesy.
