Description
In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

Probably can at the US vs. CZ west coast blind tasting. The most obviously American (apart from Swami) of the bunch, this one was a hydrogen bomb of West Coast. Clear pale golden body, white head. Enormous dank, oniony aroma, some tangerine, bit of alcohol - so enormous that it, realistically not the most inviting aroma in the world, put off many at the table, and might be the reason, though it screams MURICAAAA!!! with bald eagles flying around it that some didn't nail it as American - the don't like it, probably Czech guess I reckon. Huge taste, resin, citrus notes, onion again. Warming, intensive but drinkable. Fun fun fun!

Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 01, 2024. Aroma is moderately hop forward with notes of grapefruit, passion fruit and dank, resiny pine. Medium light cracker malt and light alcohol notes. Pours a somewhat clear, yellow-gold with a large, moderately thick, fluffy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Medium light lacing and small legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with medium light cracker malt notes. Medium high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Moderately strong notes of passion fruit and grapefruit. Lighter notes of orange and dank, resin, pine notes. Mouthfeel.is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really solid West Coast IPA. Nice hoppy notes in the aroma and especially in the flavor. Alcohol is well hidden. Assertively bitter, but not so much that it hides the fruity hop notes.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated April 24, 2024. Aroma is hop forward with nice tropical citrus notes, passion fruit, floral notes and a touch of a spicy, herbal note. Light bready grain notes and a hint of alcohol. Pours a fairly clear, yellow-gold color with a medium large, fairly thick, frothy white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers on the edges. Moderate lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with medium light bready grain notes and a bit of cracker malt as well. Medium light bitterness and light alcohol notes. Medium hop notes of tropical citrus and dank pine resin. Lighter notes of passion fruit, floral and a touch of a spicy, herbal hop notes as well. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid West Coast Pilsner (whatever that actually means). It's got a nice hop profile in the aroma and flavor. A decent amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol notes. The malt profile might be a bit big and a heavier mouthfeel than a traditional pilsner, but it carries the hops well. Despite not being particularly crisp, this is pretty crushable.
