Pitch black beer with a lasting light brown head. Intense aroma of licorice, chocolateand Christmas spices. The spices blend into one fine combination where nothing stands out and overpowers the beer. Just the way it should be - in fact it leaves a bit of a Belgian yeast impression. Flavour is intensely roasted: tar, charcoal, dark chocolate, licorice, and a Christmas tree with the candles still lit. Once your tongue gets used to the roastiness, it’s rather sweet with a lot of spice and some hoppy bitterness too. The American hops leave a nice aftertaste of Christmas tree, and I’m not even kidding.

[Another century celebrated with a Mikkeller beer - this time 9400] An amber beer with a fast disappearing off-white head. The aroma is sweet mlaty combined with notes of alcohol, fruit, and syrup. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of alcohol and caramel. The alcohol note is very powerful and leaves a burn in the throat. I find it a bit too simple now - I think it needs a year or two or three to mature. I drank it side by side with a two year old Big Bad BW, which was clearly superior.

Bottle at Chris_o’s Magic Night. Black, lasting tan head. Decent dark malts. Really intense. Pretty good. Nice tar. Nice spice.

RB#2100. 50 cL bottle, tasted head to head with Big Worse Barley Wine, my outmost thanks to Ungstrup for providing me this fantastic opportunity to taste my most sought after DK beer. Pours deep orange with a fizzy head. Aroma is FULL, dried fruit and filling malty roasted, alcohol and with a totally gone sweetness, worse seems slight faint in comparison. Full bodied. Flavour starts woody and slowly, and I mean: s l o w l y, goes into a nice liqourice finish and then again leaves some deep dried fruity, barley and woody tones in the far finish. Fantastic. Worse is more fruity and sweet compared to this, and clearly lacks a lot of cellaring.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Aroma of citrus and pine. Golden amber color with a substantial white head. Thinnish body with creamy carbonation. The flavor is citrus and pine with caramel malt. The finish is nice bitter hop. It definitely has an effect on the mouth. Very tasty.

Very, very dark red-brown with a big and lasting light brown head. Big aroma: Some dark malt/toffee/coffee/chocolate. Some cherry/plum/figs. A touch of alcohol. Flavour is full of fruit, especially cherry, rather sweet but with that dark malt to balance it. Alcohol shines through and adds port notes. There is a long roast malt and chocolate aftertaste. Very promising for cellaring.

This is much sweeter than the original "Big Bad Barley Wine". With 12 % needs cellaring, propably beer will be more complex after 2-3 years.

i feel fortunate for the chance to try this and I appreciate Brewfiend sharing. It is a very good coffee imperial stout, though perhaps not Peche Mortel-good. Loads of coffee in the aroma and flavor. A thick, viscous beer with low carbonation. Lots of malt and light spice I can’t identify. The hops are very light. A skillfully made beer and I am surprised to see the alcohol is so high because I didn’t pick up any alcohol in the aroma or flavor.

Bottle. Dark black color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy hoppy, pine, orange, coffee, vanilla, black currant, alcohol. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finsh feel is light alcoholic. ;o)) (261007)
