Mostly coriander on the nose. Has a small head, muddy orange body. Flavour is lots of hops and coriander, but nothing else, leaving it tasting somewhat empty. Very weak palate. Needs further attention to get a full-bodied flavour.

Aroma of fruits and hazelnuts. Bright brown body with decent head if poured aggressively, and when warm enough. Flavour is soft booth leather and cherries mixed with paint thinner. Dry finish. Really not bad for the style; reliable and has some twists, but it doesn’t stand out.

Aroma of soft hops, malts, little else. Boring gold body, little head. Flavour is smooth with okay hops hints, and a mild finish. It’s an okay pilsner, and unexceptional.

Bottle: Poured a light clear copper color bock with a small foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of dry caramel malt is not as intense as I would expect from a Christmas beer. Taste is also dominated by light dry caramel malt with minimal complexity. Body is not that full with good carbonation. More bland and boring then I would expect from a Christmas type beer.

This is probably the better Belle Gueule beer. I prefer Boréale brews over Belle Gueule, but when this one comes out for the winter season, I always like to have a few. Clean light amber-copper colour with a foamy head that dissipates quickly and leaves a little lacing. Nice grainy scent with some mild spices. Reminds me of rye cereal. The taste is pretty similar. What I really enjoy about this beer are the spices. Nothing too crazy like most Christmas beers, but just there to supe-up the taste of their regular brews.

Originally rated April 2005. Pours a medium brown colour with red highlights. The head has better retention then their Blonde d’Achouffe, and some lacing. The alcohol is present in the scent. The nose was also made of red apples, spices and sweet malts. The mouthfeel is kinda flat. The taste reminds me of apple cider, not the alcoholic one, but the brown coloured one that you buy around Christmas time. But with heavy alcohol. Lots of spices and red apples. A pretty good brew, but much prefer their Blonde one.

Originally rated April 2005. This "La Chouffe" imitation pours a hazy white-golden colour with some head, but no retention. The lacing left is quite small as well. The aroma though is quite something. Oranges (citrus), yeast and spices. The taste is spicy with coriander, yeasty and with some bubble gum finish. Smooth and mostly flat mouthfeel, very enjoyable and refreshing. Great spicy strong brew.

Bouteille 341ml.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow color ale with a nice fluffy pure white head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of orange peel and wheat malt is enjoyable. Taste is quite simple with average wheat malt notes and some orange peel which provide some refreshing notes. Body is a bit light with good carbonation. Not very complex but no flaws with good refreshing factor.
