Quite smooth and drinkable, but not much of a Scottish ale. Its on the malty side, but lacks that smoky strong malt you'd expect. Lightly fruity. Cloudy brown color, foamy head.

Oakes's review has me second guessing myself. I found it a little sour in the nose and at the tip of the tongue: I'd concluded this was from age, as the bottle was dated April 2000, and I was sampling July 2001. Behind that sourness was a full smooth mildly fruity flavor, almost English in nature. The beer resembled a cask conditioned ale, with its light amber color, smooth body and foamy head. As a Belgian inspired ale, its a little underdone. As an English ale, it was nice yet old/soured. Hard to say - but generally I enjoyed it.

Fairly restrained blueberry character. The ale underneath is light and lifeless, so the fruit adds just enough to make it acceptable.

A bit of a headscratcher. It tasted less like an amber than it did a yeasty whiskey malt beer. But as far as I know there isn't any smoked malt of any kind in this beer. Maybe I was just really out of it that night. One for the re-sample list next time I'm in Montreal.
