Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Can from the brewery. Hazy yellow, with a large white head. Tropical nose, with some stone fruit, and lactic notes. Very fruity, lightly tart, i wouldn't say sour. Light cereals, a bit of wet grass, low bitterness.

Hazy pink pour, with some off white, and a large white head. Aroma is bright, grassy, citric, a bit earthy, with some some vinous notes. Lively carb, lovely mouth feel. Bright finish, minerals, light red grape, lemon zest, bready cereals.

Bottle from the brewery. Cloudy red pour, with a small pinkish head. Aroma is lactic, tart, with a random berriness. I can't pull out dragon fruit or pineapple to be honesty. Mouth feel and carb are nice. Finish is medium tart, nice fruitiness, lactic notes, light citrus. Dragon fruit doesn't taste like much to begin with, but I'm not even finding the pineapple.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy yellow pour, with a small white head. Aroma is very similar to the non DDH version. Bright, floral, but a bit more green. More freshly cut grass, more fresh hop cones, with a bit of pine mixed in with the citrus. Same medium bitterness, and dry finish, with light white pepper, and funky notes.

Can from the brewery. Jet.black, large brown head. Loads of pasty notes, vanilla, big roast, but it's soft, and a touch sweet. Silky mouth feel, silky carb. Coffee is upfront, but soft, and very complimentary to the roast, pastry and vanilla notes.

Bottle from the brewery. One of the darkest, thickest beers I've ever had.. Jet. Black, motor oil, with a medium dark brown head. Dark soy, loads of spices, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and all spice. Earthy, sticky sweet rhum barrel, vanilla, black strap molasses, charred coffee. Thick, oily, luscious mouth feel, with a super soft carb. Medium bitterness, sticky, sweet, so complex, incredible.
