Description
Bellwoods Brewery began as a small brewpub in the west end of Toronto in 2012, and underwent a couple modest growth spurts over the years to encompass two retail shops (selling fresh cans and bottles), and a production brewery in North York (mostly to house The Foeder Pyramid). These days, we produce about 18,000hL a year, which is a mere blip in the grand scheme of Ontario beer, but keeps us pretty busy. The styles we’re interested in brewing range greatly, and we always remain open to new ways of making beer. For the most part, our current efforts are devoted to aromatic hoppy stuff, crisp lagers, barrel aged wild blends, fruit-forward zingers, and the occasional barrel aged stout. There’s always a new, creative project waiting in the wings. We’re still a relatively small, collaborative team, forever dedicated to the pursuit of perfect beer–thanks so much for partaking in the fruits of our labour.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy yellow pour, with a large white head. Aroma was very herbal, lots of wheat notes, light spice, pepper, dried grass, and lemon zest. Bright, and lively mouthfeel, bright carb. Finsih is medium bitter, very grassy, more of the soft spice, and hebal notes. citrus comes through more, but still qhit egrassy with big wheat notes.

On Tap at the source. Pours a murky light pink, with a big off white head. Aroma is sweet, very fruity, notea of guava, and some grapefruit. Some tropical notes and melon also make and appearance. Silky, almost milkshark mouth feel with a light, soft carb. The finish is quite fruity, soft tartness, melon and guava are up front with soft citrus rounding it out.

On tap at the brewpub. Huge leafy hop Aroma, green hop cones, pine resin and tropical fruit. Perfect mouth feel, carb is quite nice. The finish is highly bitter, lots of pine resins, but they fade to copious amounts of tropical, and stone fruit. The lupulin powder I find adds a strong fresh hop cone, and hop pellet Aroma and flavour, adds a new dimension to heavily hopped beers.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy pale pink pour, with a large white head. Aroma is tart, and lactic, with some really nice semi sweet strawberry, and some acidic tartness from the rhubarb. mouth feel is lovely, carb is soft. Finish is tart, but not sour, tart strawberries, and a touch of rhubarb in the background. I was honestly expecting a bit more fruit. This isn't bad by any means, but its a bit one dimensional.

On tap at the brewpub. Opaque Orange pour, tiny white head, looks like mango nectar. Aroma is off the hook. A distinct balance between the copious amounts of mango nectar, vanilla, and citrusy hops. Both are strong, but distinct from each other but also mingle together beautifully. The mouth feel is creamy, but still pleasant and not distracting. The finish is a blast of mango, and citrus fruit with a soft creamy vanilla. This is the beer version of a mango Creamsicle, this was incredible. This caused my beer rating head to explode, I couldn’t find anything to not make me give this a 5. This was unreal.

On tap at the brewpub. Clear red pour, tiny pink head. Aroma is loaded with tart cherries and random berries. Juicy mouth feel, very soft carb. Tart finish, more cherries and lactic tartness, bordering on sourness. Not overpower, but very pleasant.

Hop bomb..... Loads of citrus and resinous notes. Some stone fruit, and grapefruit, with a strong hop pellet, green hop oil aroma. Medium to high bitterness, light cereals poke through, boat loads of more hops in the end with a very citrus, stone fruit forward finish.

Dank sums this up perfectly! Think of a super dank ipa, wet pine, and strong citrus oil and zest with some huge tropical fruits. Notes of Sulphur in the nose, subtle durian even, silky mouth feel, lovely, soft, yet lovely carb. Medium to high bitterness, lovely dank, resinous finish. Lots of overly ripe pineapple and orange zest. Interesting hop, indeed!

Hazy yellow pour, big, frothy, white head. Aroma is loaded with hoppy goodness. Really nice white grape and vinous notes. Loads of acidity, orange, and lemon zests. Some tropical fruit, with some noticeable cereals. Medium bitterness, lots of acidity white grape vinous notes with loads of citrus. Bellwoods really can do no wrong at this point.
