Awesome dubble. This is dark and not as sweet as I thought it would be...more of a dark chocolate burnt carmel flavor. This is a very nice beer I would not mind having more of. Re-rate, just brought a case home and I’m loving this and it’s awesome complex finish. So much going on with some dark fruit and dark sugary flavors. Nice beer!!!

This is a BIG beer and is right up there with Westy 12 in my opinion, but much easier to get. The strength is masked by a wonderful mix of flavors. Looks great in the glass and tastes even better.

Re-rate Sept. 27, 2010: 330 mL bottle. Pours deep brown with a light tan head. Very rich ripe dark fruit aroma with molasses, cocoa syrup, somewhat boozy with a touch of banana and strawberry. Flavor is again strong on dark fruits, lots of raisin and red grape, some cocoa and red apple, some mild berry notes, clove, and other spice notes. Palate manages to be almost syrupy but quite crisp. I don’t think I really "got" this beer the first time I had it, but I’m loving it now.

Original rating: 330 mL bottle for my 50th rating. Pours dark brown with a large bubbly head that dissipates pretty quickly. Rich aromas of dark fruits, caramel sweetness, cloves, some alcohol. Flavor is caramel, dark fruit, some tartness, breadiness, a little banana. Finishes with more dark fruits and an alcohol bite, a little hint of whiskey. A complex, well balanced beer. 8/4/9/4/16

Bottle, Stirchley Wine and Spirits, Birmingham. Disappointed by this. Had the trio back in 2003 and remember ths as the weakest of the quiver. A re-visit has done nothing to dispel me of that opinion. Looked decent enough - a really ruddy colour with a lingering cremy head. Aroma was sourish - had a dose of curdled milk with some dark fruit. Mouthfeel was smooth but a bit full for me - heavily carbonated. Flavour was dark fruit, hay and a bit of spice and hop. Definitely over rated.
