courtesy of retorp. Pours deep ruby amber with tan head. Aroma of strong dark fruits - plum, cherry -. candi sugar. Taste of dark fruits -raisins cherry plums - , light yeast, good sugar notes, grainy and malty. Velvety palate. At 11.3abv, it drinks so smoothly. The way a quad should be. Only missing was a good piece of Rocherfort cheese.

[24/12/18, first rate: 330ml bottle liberated from Belgium by Lee - cheers mate! RB rating 8/3/8/4/15 (3.8)] Pours deep red-brown with a rather dirty beige frothy head. The moderate carbonation is irritating and really doesn't suit the style. Smells of chocolate, port and some metal. Fortunately the metal doesnt carry through into the flavour, which is raisins, chocolate, banana and port. Despite the strength, these flavours are not wiped out by an alcohol burn - this is a well balanced beer. Despite the too-high carbonation, it is actually incredibly smooth to drink. The sweetness does get a little sticky by the end, and it could do with a little spice or bitterness to cut through it. Nevertheless, it is a very good beer - but it still falls short of some of the rave reviews it has received here. [3/3/18, re-rate, bottle that Justin shared - cheers! RB - 7/3/7/4/15 (3.6)] Have had this a few times now as my friend Justin is obsessed by it and keeps trying to convert me! Generally I've stuck by my original rating, but this time it felt a little more bland, with banana bread and alcohol taking over a little. Still decent, but not as good as previous tastes. Overall mark on site is average of all rates.

A slightly sweeter and less complex version of the 8, nonetheless very nice flavor and reasonable complexity.

Dark brown color with medium tan head. Aroma of malt, nuts and some berries. Full. smooth, flavor with enormous complexity. Grows even more complex and full-flavored with 3-5 years of consistent storage. Approaches Westvleteren 12 in terms of flavor and complexity. A true classic.

Poured hazy amber brown with some biege head which lasted. Aroma is mainly fruity, predominantly raisins, with interesting flowery and yeasty hints balanced with maybe a touch of alcohol harshness. The palate is wonderful, medium to full bodied with plenty of light fluffy champagne-like carbonation. The flavour is rich and complex; agian dark fruits, raisins, dominate but there are other softer and sharper fruity flavours combined with dark malt and some subtle alcohol bite leading on to some pleasant bitterness but a long complex fruity finish. Overall an excellent complex beer, but not a session beer.

A very dark brown beer with a beige and velvet-like head. Aroma is sweet and temptating, raisins, fruits and some spices and bananas.Taster is not so sweet than can be expected based on the aroma and it turns to quite dry aftertaste. Also spices, dry hops, fruits, raisins and richness with pepperness. Rochefort 10 is a wonderfully complex and strong beer that gives you joyful surprises for every mouthfull.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. I’m somewhat surprised by the relative dearth of dissenting voices amidst the sea of universal acclaim which this basks in. Personally, I don’t think this is a patch on the 10. I can appreciate that there is quality here but its just lacking the complexity and depth of its big brother. It could be the licorice element which stands out a little too prominently for me - I’m not a fan of Licorice at all so points lost there. The slightly menthol/medicinal tang which I detected, also I’m not big on either. Its good, just a litle disappointing when compared to the 10.
