Bottle, picked up at Bellingers Jet Garage, Grove, nr Wantage, Oxon 17-05-09 consumed later that day Pours mid/dark brown with off-white head. Aroma is a little bit candy sugar and some sticky fruits. Taste really surprised me in that at 7.5% I found this to be quite thin and insubstantial and lacking somewhat, some people my say subtle I suppose. It tasted a little too sweet, malty and caramel and in truth I found it quite disappointing and a tad boring, a real surprise to me I was sure that this would be a nailed on hit as I’m sure that I’ve had it frequently before over the years (but not for some time) and rather enjoyed it. Maybe the Robinsons Chocolate Tom I had beforehand ruined the palate? A6 A3 F6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown. Complex aroma of fruits with hints of nuttiness. Flavor is also complex. Sweet with tones of fruitiness. A very enjoyable beer.

330 ml bottle. Clear amber body with a big, foamy tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel, fruit and nuts. Flavor is sweet malt, but not too sweet. Caramel, fruit, spices and a hint of wood. Light, refreshing, flavorful and balanced, pronounced bitterness. A really nice “kid brother” version of number 10.

[Bottle at Chippenham Beer Festival 2009] Paler than the 8 and 10 - a rather lifeless dark amber. Like all the Rocheforts, the carbonation is annoyingly prickly and doesn’t suit the beer. Tastes sweet & creamy, with some vanilla and oak and a lot of caramel, but overall just felt a bit bland and fizzy. Rather a disappointment. c7

Location: First try was out of a bottle Sept '08 from Norm's
Overall Impression: This is a pretty nice beer, definitely has some flavor. I have to admit though, I was expecting more.

Overall Impression: This one is a really, really top quality beer, I'd put it just a smudge behind the it's brother the 10.

33cl botlte. cloudy caramelly brown, thick light brown head. sweet hoppy and well rounded aroma, like a good hoppy barley wine. flavor is sweet, strangely hoppy, bitter from alc. malts, sugar. dark fruits, nice, but not totally balanced, and not worthy a score of 4+ imo. (2009-06-04) 8,4,7,3,15 (2016-02-10) clear dark orange, smoioth offwhite head.3, aroma is malty and slightly belgian yeasty. quite mild, but i also have a cold right now, could play in.sweet spicy notes, wild yeasty notes. 8 Flavor is sweet malty, spicy, very complex, if i blind tested this i’d say it was a sweet tripel with lots of depth and a bit more malts than usual. Flavor is very rounded, which takes the beer to a whole new level, and the belgian yeast is adding some crispness and spicyness that is just great. 8,4,8,3,17 A lot of taste compared to alc. and alc. is well hidden.

Huge caramel and grain aroma. Sweet and dessert-like but not a bit cloying. Creamy, full, smooth body. Complex grain, fruit, vineous character. Amazing.
