Update (Mar 2022): This is still excellent after 13 years. It exudes notes of dark dried fruits, Belgian yeast, candi sugar and alcohol. Moderately complex, but a shadow of a beer that Rochefort 10 is. My rating today is identical to what I gave it in 2009. A solid 4/5. Original rating (Nov 2009): 330mL bottle - pours dark brown with a big beige head. Fantastic aroma of chocolate, raisins, plum. Flavour is plums, malt and yeast. Medium-bodied, though no where near Rochefort 10.

Bottle at pub in Belgium. Wow, this made my trip to Belgium worth it. This was an awesome beer. From the pour which was dark brown color with a nice creamy head with lots of lace left in the glass. The aroma was bold with plenty of malt. The taste was well balanced with malts and hops with Belgium sugar.

Pours like dark mud into a chalice, nice foaming, nice bubbling. The aroma doesn’t have much on it, however - just some coriander and alcohol. The tase is still divine, however, with lots of malts, caramel, and hops. Very drinkable but not as complex as its bigger brothers, but makes a good session beer. Problem is that it will likely cost you as much as the other two as well.

Very dark copper pour, large head fades quickly.Very perfumy aroma: citrus fruits, apples, doughy yeast, candi sugar, plums, rose-like alcohol, peach blossom, woody honey.Flavours are quite sweet: candi sugar, caramel, golden syrup, figs. Silky alcohol merges with a light bitterness to create an impressive finish that builds up in the first few seconds after swallowing.High carbonation (too high in my opinion). Some alcoholic tingling on the sides of the tongue, but not harsh in any way.Superb.

Bottle. Dark murky brown pour with a decent beige head on top. Dark fruit aroma. Taste is dark fruit, caramel, hint of chocolate, quite sweet. A nicely balanced easy drinking version of Rochefort 10. Belgian beer at its best.

Bottle. Murky dark brown pour with a big thick beige head. Boozy, malty, fruity aroma. Sweet, malty, dark fruits, complex, slight chocolate taste. This is a rich filling beer but it is also a classic. Probably one of the best beers in the world.
