330mL bottle, pours a cloudy brownish orange with a medium beige head. Toffee, sour cherries and black currant on the nose. Figs, toffee and various spices on the palate. No where near as complex or invigorating as 8 or 10 - quite watered down in comparison. Still good.

Bottle as shown at Freaking Frog in Las Vegas. Pours a dark cloudy brown with large frothy beige head with good sticky lacing along the glass with yeast flakes floating. The aroma is a sweet malt and yeast and candy. Medium mouthfeel with one of the smoothest tasting Belgian I have ever tried. Hides the alcohol very well. Really enjoyed this one, taking very slow sips enjoying this Belgian from Rochefort.

Appearance: Poured murky dark brown with floating yeast chunks. Large dirty light tan head that dissipates quickly, some lacing in the glass
Aroma: Sweet malts, dark fruits
Taste: Sweet malts, spices, hot alcohols. Medicinal/band-aide aftertaste that sticks around.
I really like the 10, but this not even close. I had the 10 on tap in Belgium so maybe that is the difference. I’ll try a bottle of 10 tonight to compare.
*Edit - I tried the 10 and stick with my comments. The 10 is very smooth and balanced, unlike the 8.

Bottle. A murky brown pour with a decent beige head. Aroma of fruit and spice. Tastes rather thin compared to the other Rocheforts but still decent, dark fruit, spice, plum, quite rich and easy drinking. If I want a light Rochefort I reach for this.

Sampled from a 330ml brown bottle in a trappist glass at Pub Italia in Ottawa. High expectation being a top beer on this site. Poured a dark brown colour with red highlights and a creamy tanned head. This left a film coating on the beer for the remaining drinking time. Some lacing was left also. The nose was mainly of raisins and plums with hints of almonds. The scents were very light though. The taste on the other hand was very strong, but not much on the alcohol side... considering its content (11.3%). Some oranges (like Triple Sec) and plums. Spices in the aftertaste. The mouth did drop fast though. In most of the strong brews (I have tried), this is probably the one that taste the less in alcohol. Easy drinking.

Pours hazy copper with a very large head.Nose shows milk chocolate, cinnamon, cloves, rose-like perfume, bready malt, and caramel. Quite enticing, but doesn’t show quite as much complexity as the 8 or 10.Flavours include, oats, bready malt and more cinnamon. Quite sweet, but light at the same time. Alcohol is definately there, but is soft and rose-like before building into a more assertive finish.High carbonation, just short of excessive. Body is quite light, could be a bit richer.

Bottle, 12C, Trappist glass. Opened with a distinct pop. Dirty brown with a beige coat. Earthy with straw and strawberries. Delicate, but highly carbonated mouthfeel. Tastes like breathing in strawberries whilst you’re hulling them. Finishes dry and herbal with hints of sourness. Amazingly light and refreshing for 7.5%. [3.9] ------ More caramel and heavy earthy yeast this time, which detracts from the lightness of the brew and invites invidious comparisons with its stablemates. Lovely berry aroma, but heavier than last time and missing the sour notes.

Murky dark brown, rather pale beige head is a bare coat. Complex fruity aroma - berries, orchard fruits and citrus are there but they meld together. Some earth/ forest floor smells too. Taste starts sweet and then explodes. Alcohol is very noticeable, but is completely integrated into the flavour of the beer - it’s like a warm burst towards the end of each sip. A little tartness and some residual yeasty bubbles combine to leave no thick sweetness at the end, just lingering flavours and aromas. A lot of things and yet just itself. Beautiful. [4.5] This one is even better - lovely thick head that lasts in a Trappist glass and laces beautifully. So big, but so easygoing. Complex and harmonious. [4/10: 4.7]Coat of a head but it never quite disappeared. Distinct blackcurrant and chocolate in both aroma and flavour that were less obvious in previous bottles. Alcohol feels a little heavy but is never hot.
