Bottle: Poured an very hazy dirty brown color ale with a good inch and half of off-white foamy head. Aroma is comprised of spices (coriander?), malt and Belgian yeast. Taste is at first dominated by the spices and malt and finish with the always-incredible Belgian yeast. Body is quite full and alcohol doesn’t show through. I also noted quite a few sediment at the bottom of my glass. This is the staple of Belgian ale and could not really get tired of it even though it doesn’t match the greatness of his two brothers.

Dark red brown beer with a long lasting, creamy beige head. Very rich flavour with lemon, red berries and flowers. Complex flavour with lots of earthy notes and asome sweetness, but too my alcohol for my taste. Maybe I need to try an older one?

Deep amber color, with lots of carbonation, but very little head (it’s more like "soda pop" style carbonation) - the aroma was richer than I thought it would be, given my experiences with the 10 and 8 - mostly chocolate, plums and brown sugar - the taste is very similar to its bigger brothers, just much more subdued, and with a thinner body - lots of fruits in the flavor - apples, cherries, pears, grapes - not as many dark fruits as expected - the finish disolves the complexity a bit, leaving not much more than an artificial sweetness, much like aspartame - go for the 10 or 8, the price is pretty much the same, and you get more bang for the buck.

#500 Dark muddy brown with a decent lace coming off an off white head. Aroma when cold is of dried fruit and chocolate with a vinous note in the background. The flavor is rich. Like chocolate cake, toasted almonds and whipped cream topping. Some vanilla. Very complex. Alcohol is totally hidden in the flavor. The palate is creamy with a long sweet finish. Very nice.

Muddy amber body and a short lived off white head with full lacing. Intense aroma of malt, apple, dirt and raisins. Rich flavour with chocolate and caramel going through fruits to an alcohol/hops ending. Too much alcohol to be perfect.

Dark brown, brown small head. Parfumic, lemon aroma. Soft flavor, very fruity with prunes, grapes and hints of strwaberry. Full-bodied. Smooth aftertaste. Hides high ABV quite well.

Dated: 20 02 07 Muddy brown with yeast colonies floating about in the murk. Fair off white colored head which left quickly. Outstandingly beautiful sheets of Belgian lace! Aroma of dried fruits and sweet malt. No hint of alcohol here at all, light body from candi sugar. Flavor is malt and light spice. Becomes slightly vinous as it warms.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a small beige head. Great fruity aroma (stone fruits) with some malt and raisins. Sweet complex malt flavors that have some fruit - cherry/plum - and a bit of an earthiness to it. Dry finish. Just a touch too much carbonation, but not more than most Belgians and it doesn’t have as much of Belgian tang. Hides the alcohol well. Nice lace on the glass all the way to the end. I wish I could have another one.

Pours a deep, murky red-brown, topped by a medium light tan head. Intense bready, nutty, dry and crackery aroma. Flavor is rather subdued, with dry, crackery yeast flavors, slight fruitiness, and toast. I have to say the flavor’s a letdown, although the aroma and mouthfeel are exquisite as usual. Sampled at room temperature as all Rochefort beers should be. Now that I think about it, the dense Rochefort carbonation hinders the rather subtle flavors of this beer.

Bottle, 11.3%. Very dark brown colour seems hazy. Small, creamy light brown head. Fruity, malty and vinous aroma. Very complex, with fruity, peppery flavours and warming alcohol. Quite sweet, very alcoholic, very flavourful, OK balanced.
