Description
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company, with three locations in St. Louis, is an unconventional-minded yet tradition-oriented brewer of craft beer. We like to call our unique brewing philosophy Beer Divergency - a 'new world meets old world' brewing approach wherein UCBC contributes to the 'revolution' of craft beer with artisanal creations of modern American beers, and pays 'reverence' to the heritage of beer with classically-crafted offerings of timeless European beer styles.

Acquired in a trade. Enjoyed at fridge temp in a tulip.

A - Pours a murky raisin brown with a 1 finger brown head that fades slowly.

S - I get dark fruits, plums, raisins and figs. Lots of cane syrup / molasses. Hint of rye and bourbon.

T - Impressive! VERY sweet and fruity up front like prune juice. The middle is this intense flavor of vanilla and sweet fruits like apples and mango. The finish is charred oak, vanilla and bourbon. Boozy sweet lingering taste that lasts a while.

M - Heavy body, mild carbonation. Chest burn from the alcohol.

O - This beer is pretty incredible. An excellent balance throughout. It’s certainly a sipper. Very enjoyable!!!! Looking forward to letting it warm up a bit.

Pour is a clear copper with a small tan head. Aroma is some cereal grain with a dry cracker. Not really much aroma. Flavor is some caramel malts and a bit of sweetness toward the end. Even though I’m not fond of the style this was still just ok. Light body and light flavor.

Pour is a brown with an average tan head. Aroma is of sweet caramel malts and a real nice roasted nuttyness. Flavor is again swwet caramel malts to start then comes a bit of chestnut and molasses. A good if not above par dunkel.

So I am currently at Busch Stadium watching my beloved Mets lose to my fiancé’s Cardinals. I am surrounded by a sea of red and everyone is too Midwest nice to give me shit for being a Mets fan, it makes things even worse. The bright side is that Urban Chstnut has their beer on tap here. Cost is $7.50 for a 16oz plastic cup. Pretty sweet deal if you compare it to 7 bucks for a Blue Moon. The beer pours with a nice thick head atop a thick golden body. Aroma is hefe banana with some grainy yeast knees. Flavor follows suit with very drinkable subdued banana esters ad sweet banana cream like graininess. By far the best beer I have ever purhased at a major league park. I don’t get this part, why is Terry Collins pinch hitting for the starter in the top of the fifth? He has only given up 4 runs. Are we is abundance of unworked relievers?

500mL bottle from a 4 pack, how awesome is that? Poured into a generic wine glass. Pours with a small but firm head. The color is a nicely hazy golden, can’t see through it. Aroma is a good lager dryness, herbalnes, and a clean white biscuit maltiness. Flavor is the same with a hefty unsweetened startchy white bread maltiness. Hops are in the background, herbal German hops, fall in line with the beer and are not obvious. Nicely dry, clean, well lagered, not overly processed. A nice felt mouthfeel but easy going down. All this at under 5%. What’s not to like?

Pour is a murky orange with a average white head. Aroma is at first a strong coffee with some lingering fruityness. Flavor is a little less coffee and more of a traditional hefe. Yeasty esters with some clove. Coffee is there in the flavor after the swallow. Not a coffee bomb but just there to make this different. It’s tasty but I probably don’t need another bottle of this as it’s a good experiment but I’m not real fond of the two flavors merged together.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy light amber with a creamy near-white head. Damned if it doesn’t smell a little like chestnuts. With a little citrus and very little spice. Near med body. Flavor is banana and light spice - so hefeweizen, but there’s a little nutty roastiness, not to mention a little oily chestnutiness. A little light for a dunkel, but with the nutiness it moves into that. Other than a bit of oiliness this is a pretty darn good beer.

Bottle from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours golden amber with a creamy white head. Aroma of light malt with some citrus/herb hop. Med body. Flavor is herb - probably noble hop - with some underlying citrus and pale malt. Flavor is actually rather strong, but it’s made of light things. Finishes pretty dry. Drinks quite well.

On tap at the brewery and my favourite of the night. Pours mahogany with a garnet border. The malt is well pronounced with bitterness balancing well. Some nice chocolatey flavor and a medium full mouthfeel.

On tap at brewery. Seemed to be lacking some of the spicyness and fruitiness that i expect from a saison. nice golden clear beer. Taste had some slight oxidation/cardboard, but not too much. pretty good, overall.
