Description
Great Beer Above All Else

Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.

Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

16oz can pours a crystal clear, straw yellow with a thin, creamy white head. Nice, grassy, malty aroma, yeasty, light lemon. Flavor is sweet, malty, a little corn, a little grassy. Light bodied, dry and lightly bitter.

Pours a lovely golden color with a very thick, white head that dissipates rather quickly, leaving nice lacings on the glass. A very tasty combination of hops and some earthy tones. Almost a bit of soapiness in there, though not in a bad way. This is one of the few Surly beers I’ve tried that doesn’t go over the top in its combination of malt, hops, etc. Very nice, drinkable beer.

Wash. DC tasting. dark brown, mocha head. plenty of nice roast, caramel malts, med carbonation, lactic elements, milk-chocolate mouthfeel, coffee-espresso goodness, light palate but loaded with good roasted flavors, with some notes of toffee. Can we say Imperial Sweet Stout or Milk Stout? this is outstanding.

Can courtesy of goryshkewych. Pours deep clear gold with thin white head. The aroma is full with grains, floral hops, spicy hops and slick sweet lagery-ness. The taste is similar with bold yet refreshing grains and malts rolling into bitter spicy hops and then softened a bit by floral and earthy hops toward the finish. It ends with a pulse of sweet malty lagery yeastiness.

16oz can, Pretty nice appearance, a deep orange-brown body with a large, foamy, beige head. A really nice IPA, with a mellow enough malt body to really let the hop flavor shine. Very hoppy finish, coats the mouth in a bitter stickiness. Slight English feel to it, but the bigger ABV and mega-hop taste is all US. Some pleasant dark malt tones in there as well. Surprisingly soft and restrained despite the soapy, piny tones. Well done.

Sampled from the tap at the 2010 GTMW. Poured a cloudy brown with a yellowish brown head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma was mainly sweet grains but there was a darker underlying note with some caramel and just a hint of bourbon. Flavor began sweet with caramel and sweet grains but became darker with some bourbon and even a hint of vanilla in the finish.
