Description
Great Beer Above All Else
Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

Courtesy of Blazer06. It pours deep darkness with nice dark tan head. The aroma is musty malts, dark roastiness, black licorice, dark roasted coffee, slight rauch maltiness and wet coffee grounds. The taste is smooth and quickly running into strong dark coffee along with sweetness and some light lactose. It stays very coffee like and thick with sweet malts before picking up a touch of coffee or roasted drying astringency.

Courtesy of Blazer06. It pours amber with hues of copper and brass to go along with an off white head. The aroma is light bacon with a sense of roasty malts and trying to move into a plastic sense. The taste is pretty full and rich with sweet malts, crystal malts, some roast and tasty bacony camp fire goodness. It stays smoky bacon to mild smoky burnt notes into the finish to go along with some ripe sweet cherries.

A beautiful beer. Cloudy, copper colored with a layer of thick foam, like a saison or lambic. The aroma is of powerful hops, grapefruit, citrus, and flowers. A fair amount of sugar in the flavor, but more hops here as well, in fact, quite the hop burn from this beer. Alcohol is hidden surprisingly well, the kind of beer those experienced in craft beer know is high, but this knowledge comes more from experience than any noticeable flavor, aroma, or mouthfeel, which is quite thick and heavy. I would conclude by adding I wouldn’t know it was oaked if you didn’t tell me, but it is still a fine beer.

Draft at Common Roots Cafe. A black beer with moderate carbonation. Some oak in the aroma. Flavor has lightly roasted grain, and a good, smooth palate. Besides the oak, it is true to style.

Can from a trade with phaleslu. Pours hazy copper color with cream colored head. Aromas of grapefruit and caramel. Bitter grapefruit flavor with sweet biscuity malts. Medium body with average carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel. Thanks Peter.
