Reddish-brown colour. Raisiny, yeasty, chocolate malty character. Creamy body with heavy malts and slight flowers. Yeasty, sweet finish.

Gushing to huge brown-yellow head, leaving good lace; brown ale with clear reddish shine. Nose with brown bread, touch of chocolate, roasted - and mint (the herb). Rather bitter, typical Leroy walnutpeel taste, coffeedrab, pungent. Underneath some sweet malt and even sugar. There are raisins and raw pipetobacco too. Dark chocolate in the finish. Rather well-bodied. Long bitterish aftertaste. It’s not bad - it’s this horrible Leroy - coffee taste that initially spoils so much. Once acclimatised, it’s too far gone...

(Fairly aged sample - my bottle claims 7.0% ABV!) Very clear dark red amber; very little, cream-coloured head. Nose of figs and coffee - strange combination. Old grape liqueur, maybe some port. Taste brings coffee out again (typical Leroy), moccha with milk. Precious little else, maybe some caramel. Finish is bitterish and roasted. Very light mouthfeel, slightly oily texture, growing adstringency. In the (long) aftertaste, two new elements appear: a faint, but rather oppressive tasting pale brown sugar flavour, and some hitherto unnoticed acidity. Age might have rounded some of the aggressive chicory bitterness à la Leroy, but this fully matured beer is still full of clashing tastes and elements.

The aroma is quite sweet with notes of yeast, prunes, and raisins. The color is an opaque deep red and it has a beutiful lasting light brown head. The flavor is also very sweet with notes of brown suger, yeast, prunes, raisins, and hints of wood. The end is dry from hops but also with hints of coriander and coffee bitterness. Compared to the strength the mouthfeel is a little thin.

I remember this beer from early in my "good beer" quest. I remembered liking it a great deal. Therefore I had a great deal of anticipation upon coming across another bottle. Sampled from the usual Belgian 11.2 oz bottle the beer poured a luscious golden orange-apricot color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered forever and left great lacing. The aroma was strong and was an enticing blend of tart orange, sugar and pineapple. The flavor washed over the tongue bursting sweet and bubbly with strong notes of pineapple and orange. There was a light tart sourness to add complexity and a noticeable lingering of hops and ripe fruit on the tongue. Fairly full bodied and chewy. In all this beer was a delight.

Bottle: Poured a dark beer with a huge head with super great retention. Aroma is comprised of a mix of spices and roastiness. The mix of spices and roastiness is also very present in the taste and very enjoyable and is also accompanied by strong hops. Body is quite strong with good carbonation. The alcohol is extremely subtle which is a plus when you have a 9% beer. Overall, this is another great beer from a very underrated brewery.
