Waxed, capped 375 from Tavour. Pours clear, but very dark, brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of bourbon and roasty (not toasty) malt. Full bodied for sure. Not dry, but avoids sticky. Decent heat. Roasty malt. Bourbon. Notes of oak astringency. Very tasty.

2022 release - 6 ounce pour at the brewery - not sure it makes sense to enter these as new beers every year? - anyway, this iteration is 19.3% - hazy amber - no head - flavor is sweet caramelized sugars, green raisin, treacle, fig, sherry, whiskey - bright fruity notes of cherry - bitterness on the tail end reminiscent of aromatic bitters, creating an overall impression not unlike and Old Fashioned cocktail, which I dig! - I’ve got to hand it to RN; they are the brewery that most consistently makes such strong beers that I generally find enjoyable.

6 ounce at the brewery - black pour with a thin white lace - nose and flavor are heavy on the whiskey, especially the flavor - but it’s a complex and lovely whiskey character - strong oak, maraschino cherry, earthy whisky, caramelized sugars, slight vinous character - it kind of tastes like a Manhattan, actually, which I am totally fine with - super warming finish encourages slow sipping - tasty!

6 ounce at brewery - black pour with a thick, lasting off-white head - nose of earthy cocoa and peppermint - creamy texture, quite dry for the strength, with some earthy, almost peaty malt character - peppermint through the middle is present but not overpowering - complex black malt character through the finish, ending with rich chocolate and some savory notes - warming finish - could have easily been and overly sweet, overpoweringly minty gimmick, but it’s really good!

Pours a nice near black from a bottle, faint head dissipates to a pale ring. Aroma is rather hard to place and to find, I'm getting some fallen leaves, chocolate, leather. Flavor is more chocolate forward, subtle licorice note, roasted cacao nibs and a slight muscovado sugar. This seems to live between a porter and a stout. Pretty good beer.

Capped 375 from Tavour at 13.7%. Pours dark brn/blk with a transient tan smear. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate and bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor matches aroma, plus noticeable heat - which is more flavor than problem. Not dry, but pushes my mind that direction. Whiskey/heat persists nicely. There's an equivalent to bitter in the mix. Good drink.

Bottle from the brewery - dark ruby, nearly black, faint lace - nose of tamarind, cherry, sherry, oxidation, light spice, treacle, vanilla, oak - a tiny bit of leading tartness and oxidation balances the sweetness to come, keeping it from being cloying - tamarind, vinous notes, vanilla, whiskey, toasted oak - light spiciness on the tail end - smooth and not at all boozy - I dig this!

Bottle from the brewery - labeled as 8.5% abv - hazy amber - moderate lace - medium-sweet notes of raisin and date - a strong dusty and peppery phenolic yeast character that dries things out, even as flavors of dark bread and plum emerge through the middle - finishes peppery and musty, with some lingering orange rind and spiciness - pretty good - a little sweet on the very end.

Tulip at Washington Street location - complex but not overpowering pumpkin and spice profile - flavor is medium-dry and heavy on the coffee, bitter chocolate - earthy pumpkin and warming autumnal spices work well and do not overshadow the base beer - pretty well-executed.
