Bottle - deep black pour with an off-white lace - this is one of the sweeter variants of this beer - strong vanilla and bourbon sweetness - some of the roastier elements of the malt seek to balance, and a spiciness and smoke develops late that cuts the sweetness a bit more - oak and some tannic qualities finish - opens up as it warms and the less sweet qualities balance a bit more - good, but not the best variant.

Bottle - pours a deep black with a thin ring of dark tan lace - nose is strong but not abrasive or overpowering bourbon, chocolate, oak, cookie dough, dates, light background hints of savoriness - low carbonation, slick mouthfeel - flavor of rich bourbon, but not boozy - oak, smoke, vanilla, light umami on the back end - warming finish - tasty.

2019 bottle shared by Gene. Pours black, with a bubbly, fleeting, tan head. The nose is maple, black coffee, chalk, vanilla, and a bit of soy. Sweet and syrupy, with a touch of bitterness. Heavy body, with a drying, grainy palate. This is a solid stout.

500 mL bottle, thanks to Albert. Pours pitch black, with a medium, tan, bubbly head. Strong coffee flavors, bittersweet chocolate, harsh peat, chicory, vanilla, and leather. Sweet and very roasty, with a sharp, acrid bitterness. Very heavy body, with a grainy, thick, and chewy mouthfeel. This is a very aggressive stout, and the barrel aging is not very evident. Quite tasty, but a little rough.

13 ounce at the brewery - hazy light pink - not feeling the cherry addition to this - the sweetness of the fruit is clashing with the spicier characteristics of the yeast - the cherry also tastes a little artificial, like Luden’s cough drops - pass.

Bottle - marked as 12% abv - Belgian style imperial dark ale aged in bourbon and whiskey barrels - pours a dark ruby with minimal carbonation - some nice oxidation and notes of sherry, musty basement, treacle, oak, booze - the Belgian character is there, for sure, but there are elements here that remind me of barleywine, as well - raisin, plum, with a finishing spiciness and lingering earthy, oaky warmth - a nice slow sipper.

Bottle at the RiNo location - lightly hazy gold - I really enjoy what they’ve done here - the lemon peel and ginger combine with the whiskey character to produce a flavor not unlike a whiskey cocktail - notes of vanilla, Belgian yeast spiciness, moderate oak - finish akin to botanical bitters - well-done.
