Bottle from Mum & Dad - cheers! Dull pale amber, flat and no head. Nice and fruity up front, but then it's digestive biscuits and twigs with negligible bitterness and a musty finish. Poor, and being flat makes it worse. Based on the other rates here, the flatness wasn't unique to my bottle either. Clearly the brewery need to sort out their bottling.

Bottle from Secretts, Milford. Seems to have been 6.8% rather than 8.0% for some time now. Aroma is rich a fruity, with a vinous element. Gluey streak into finish. Dark brown. Foamy off-white head. Light-medium sour. Berries. A touch of quinine bitterness. Malty underbelly. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Lifted by soft carbonation. Long astringent finish. How'd this get so bland?

Bottle, gift from Mum & Dad - cheers! Clear gold with a white head and a middling fizz. Ooh.. it's weird, didn't expect something like this from a trad bitter brewer like Hunters. It smells strongly of apple juice. The flavour is apple sauce and crackling (not sure if the crackling is autosuggestion from the apple sauce flavour, but I definitely felt there was a light savoury, greasy note). This is followed by dry, dusty straw-like hops and caramel. It's sweetish overall, with just a mildness. I actually think it would do well in it's intended purpose, as a match for a hog roast. On its own though it's just odd and it's difficult to decide if I like it or not. By the end of the bottle I decided that it was actually ok, and a bonus point to the brewer for trying something unusual and unexpected.

500 ml bottle conditioned, as Hunter's Devon Dreamer Amber Bitter, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.1%. Boadicea hops are used, also Goldings and Citra. Auburn colour, moderate off-white head. Moderate aroma, notes of malts with hints of toffee and earthy hops. Malty and fruity flavour with notes of dark berries and brown bread. Moderate bitterness, a little more would not hurt.

Bottle from the Shops at Dartington. Appearance - slightly lively off white head om top of deep brown body. Light orange chinks. Nose - funky chocolate amd nuts. Taste - nuts again, still with a funky edge. Palate - medium bodied, very wild and funky on the middle section. Tangy finish. Overall - not sure this is how the brewer intended. A wild yeast issue perhaps.

Bottle at home from Sainsburys. Dark amber orange colour with medium frothy/creamy white head. Smells boozy and quite fruity, apple and some bready yeast. Bit of toffee, caramel and honey too. Smells very sweet. Taste is full on sweet and bit fruity. Quite cake-like. After-taste is very much honey. Fairly full bodied, and quite nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Full Bore on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7.
