Bottled. An unclear red beer with a thin pink head. The aroma is sweet with notes of raspberries. The flavor is sweet - a somewhat artificial sweetness, combined with strong notes of raspberries and lighter notes of wheat.

Bottle with cork. A little bit of a spooky start to things. Brown body with quite a bit of suspended particles. Head is massive. Considering the body that already is a little forboding, aromas are a little intimidating at first... (like some grog that a hippie might hand you at a Dead concert or something else of that caliber that would leave some serious wondering about whether it’s a good idea to go down this road any further or not.) After it settles down a little bit there are some familiar scents: caramel/toffee malt, dark fruit, a bit of spice... smells a lot like some of the barley wines I’ve sampled. Flavor is different... starts with a sweet caramel/dried fruit presence and transitions into a earthy stage... I’m reminded of sawdust and a little bit of a musty basement flavor. Things then switch again and get a bit of a sour character before a yeasty finish. Can’t say that I would want it every day, but this is fairly interesting.

Bottle. A golden beer, clear except for some big chunky floaties. Diminishing white head. Quite intense aroma with tobacco, citrus, coriander and spices. Quite sweet flavor with some bitter citrus and spices. Medium, quite fizzy mouthfeel. Spicy and citrusy finish. This beer is way too much, leaving it neither foul nor quaffable, but a small glass is ok. (070528)

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with thick beige head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of ginger, brown sugar and gingerbread cake. Malty, spicy taste with dried fruit, ginger, brown sugar and dark rye bread. Rather sweet, but not disturbingly. Very tasty and nice.

bottle - Pours murky orange with numerous dark floaters that sink after awhile. It has a very herbal aroma and flavor and tastes somewhat sweet. I really can’t place the herbs, but they certainly give it a unique flavor. It reminds me of the heather ale that I tried awhile back. The carbonation is low and the body seems a little watery. It has a light, dry finish. It’s an okay quaff, but I definitely wouldn’t pay $6 for a bottle again.
