Bottle. Nice, spicy aroma, slightly peppery. Slightly cloudy golden colour, small white head. OK mouthfeel, but watery flavour. The flavour has a subtle spiciness to it, and the aftertaste is teaish.

(bottle, thankfully received from bierkoning) Almost clear and golden coloured effervescent hue with a nice and firm light yellow foam. Dusty and sweet malty and coriander-spicy aroma with honey and a touch of hops. Sweet and slightly bitter-spicy flavour, medium to full bodied, malty and slightly fruity taste; lasting moderately bitter and most of all coriander-spicy finish. Too over-spiced for me and certainly the wrong choice for a sunny and almost hot day like today.

Draught. Wheaty, spicy aroma. Dark golden colour, small white head. Spicy flavour, some fresh metal, medium bitterness. Acidic/sour aftertaste. The metal is not nice.

(Draught at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London 21 Apr 2006) Golden yellow colour, slightly hazy, firm white head. Very nice spicy nose with clove, cardamom and a wheaty, sweet/sour character. Taste is spicy with clove and coriander, lightly sweet and light body. Quite nice, but the nose is better than the taste.

Bottle. Sour milk, clove, and stale wheat aroma. Murky orange-amber color with minimal head. Sour apple and stale wheat flavor - really works well. A nice clean tasting traditional beer. Very enjoyable.

Draught. Some hop aroma. Clear golden colour. Nice, stable, creamy white head. OK bitterness, also a little sweet and malty. Medium bitterness. I do not see why it is called hoppenber.

Fairly ordinary bock that isn’t up to the standards of Salvator or Optimator, but more successful than the attempts of many micro brewers. Caramel colored. Standard flavor of a bock, with more caramel and sugar.

Highly impressive dutch beer. This gruit stuff is really good. Its what makes the aroma and taste so unique. This beer is not heavy and very different to any witbier that I have tried. I recommend this all the way.7/3/8/3/17

Re-rate: I wold guess this is the same batch as my first rate. Got it at a place where this could have easily been sitting for a few years. Pours with a small head and a hazy orange/copper color. Aroma is a bit aged cardboard with light too old sourness but a lot of strong musk, light mustard, and spicy honey, A bit overwhelming at first, but once you get past the aged and musk there are cool little aspects. Taste is musky, light spoiled-orange tea, some sweetness and a cheap honey aftertaste. Coriander and tea aspects linger for a while as well. Easy drinking despite the thicker and slicker mouthfeel. Doing good despite the age. 7/3/7/3/15

(bottle) Hazy reddish brown colour with a small foamy tanned head. Sweet caramel aroma with chocolate and a light toasty note. Also sweet caramel-malty accented flavour and taste, slightly bitter and spicy (pepper) finish. Reminds me of a (stronger) german Dunkel.
