Notes from May 2009 Starting the night off in the completely wrong direction... (I'll save those pale ales to rinse after brushing my teeth). Half growler from New Beer, poured into my favorite Ommegang anniversary glass. Stiff pop off the cap, this one is about a month old. Beautiful brown sugar rise off an eight ounce pour. Nice staying power over a black coffee body, lined with deep amber highlights. Smells of licorice & earthy blackberries upfront giving a brief acidity, building on cola & anise. The expected banana is disappointingly, a little Runt-y. It trails back on soft honey wheat. Taste first off is bitter/tart cherries, definitely. I almost have that numbing sensation I always get from the heavy pesticides. The beer is acidic & sharp constantly through, or maybe it's just the alcohol being that well hidden. Cola & milk chocolate that's just too sweet & velvety to be dark. The body is so milky, yet so carbonated. Black grape skins reminiscent on the texture. A little insertion of coffee that I'm not sure of, whether oxidation or roast, it's the only thing here I think isn't in it's right spot. Insignificant anyways. Finish is a Fig Newton kind of combo of fruit & caked malt. Expectations were high, & I stuffed my bag with growlers(of course), but fuck me if I just pass up their great Winter Wheat from now on with a snobbish meh & just pester for this throughout the year.

Draught @ Barcade Jersey City (Jan 2024). It was the 2022 edition. Opaque dark brown with a very small creamy dark beige head that dissipates very fast, very faint toasted malt aroma, low carbonation, initially sweet dark roasted malt/coffee taste that turns bitter soon, alcohol undertones, smooth body, long bitter finish with alcohol aftertaste. Smooth and potent.

Draught at Franklin Social: pours barely hazy gold. Aroma is some spice and banana, but also sort of like a golden ale with more hops. Taste is sweet, light hops, mild hefe taste.

16 ounce can. Excessively foamy pour. Huge pillowy white head tops the pale golden liquid. Zesty malt aroma hints at sweet bready malt. Flavor mirrors nose. Sweet malt, grassy, herbal notes. Soft, creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Just a hint of lemony citrus in the finish. Quite refreshing.
