deep dark brown colour, large, though not too dense brown head, which collapses quickly; aroma of dried sour cherry, prune, some dark chocolate, ash and minimal maple syrup, taste has similar notes to the aroma (with much less intesnisty, except for sour cherry) with some tart-like-sourish,, burnt-like bittery as well as woody notes - well, much less complex than I expected - especially its taste

Nice evening sipper. Amber pour and a fine head. Pleasant intensity in the aroma. Smooth sweetness and a fine carbonation level. Easy to drink. Bready, caramel, oak and fruity flavor [Bottle at Komlefjorden 24]

Bottle. A lightly hazy deep golden colored beer with a small off-white head. Quite caramel-sweetish aroma with a nice fruityness. Spiced hints too. It’s full-bodied and lightly warming, nicely carbonated. Sweet flavor with caramel, some bread crust and generic fruityness. Some fruityness. Medium length sweet finish. Nice enough, but a bit too sugary sweet. 241103

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy brown, thin, tan head. Aroma of candied date, rum-soaked raisin, banana, wet cinnamon, liqueur, oxidised sherry, caramel, dark honey. Taste has very sweet raisin, candied plum & dried orange peel in a brown-sugary, brioche-like malt body with some bitter green tea & spicy cinnamon for balance. Soft herbal hops in the finish, quickly dominated again by dried fruits, bittersweet orange peel and hefty liqueur-like alcohol. Full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Eisbocks tend to be hit or miss but this one was certainly successful, even despite my doubts about the base beer's style.

Notes from October 2012 $3 bottle from New Beer. 12/12/A notch. A bit of a gusher upon opening. Hope the price break didn't mean this was headed to the clearance rack. Things have to be pretty bleak to land there. Ommegang chalice. Muddy amber/brown body. Whispy off-white head. Smell is a moderately rich sausage smoke. Faint char & alcohol. Feel is a bit thin. Taste is a bit more subdued. Light ash, sweet char, mellow whiskey. Lingering bark-like bitterness. Odd, twangy fruit finish. Paired with the thin, beaded body, & the overeager start, I'm guessing that this one will start turning sooner rather then later.
