Description
2005 saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC.

In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.

Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Cask at the Regal (JDW), Cambridge. Amber with a ring of white head; malty aroma; thin with light caramel malts; the finish is dry and lightly bitter. Disappointing.

Cask-conditioned at the Staple Hill Oak (JDW), Bristol 12/04/10. Deep gold with a decent white head. Sweet malty beer, with a caramel and a hint of apricot before a short, bitter finish. Inoffensive.

Cask handpump at The Penny Black, Bicester, JDW 10-04-10 with Craig & family Pours golden with a filmy white head, served a little too warm for me. Its light, easy drinking but desperately boring and difficult for to even think that much about what flavour’s, aroma’ are in it. A6 A4 F5 P3 Ov11 2.9

Bottle. Clear golden with little head. Malty aroma. Medium body, light carbonation. Flavour has a tangy malty start with a little bitterness in the finish. Overall, pleasant but not exceptional.

Cask @ Society Room, JDW. Clear golden colour, dense off-white head. Aroma is malty, indeed cheese, hint of sourness. Flavour is slightly hoppy and slightly malty. Thin bodied. Slightly bitter finish. A bit disappointing.

Cask at the Wheatsheaf Hotel near Chatsworth. Light amber color. Malt, a bit of citrus, and hop aroma. Very good balance, with nice, carmelly malt and decent though not very strong hops. Very nice.

Cask at the Royal Oak, Didsbury. Dark brown with a slightly tan, fine head. Slightly sour aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Strong caramel flavor with a sour touch. Well roasted, a bit sweet. Relatively hoppy finish, surprisingly so. A nice beer. A bit too sour, but nice and smooth with a good malty taste. The head stayed the same size all the way down.

Pours dark amber with a coating beige head that laces nicely. Smells of plums, caramel and grass. Smooth mouthfeel. There’s some roast malt and coffee flavours along with the fruit and balancing bitterness. Quite complex - there are hints of hazelnuts, sherry and wood too. Overdry finish. [3.6] As above, but the flatness of the mouthfeel bothers me more this time.
