[I find the label of my beer more red than brown - but it is the 4.1% ABV version - so this is where my rating goes] A deep red beer with a huge light brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of berries. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of berries - cowberries comes to mind, on a malty background, but also hints of metal comes thru, before the quite dry and slightly woody end sets in. The strong sweetness and berry notes - makes me think of a pilsener mixed with a raspberry sodapop - the Czech type of Radler?

Import bottle. This was hard to find on this site. I just went by the label: B.B. Burgerbrau. Anyway, kudos to Sam’s Wines in Downers Grove, where this was in the "Staff Picks" rack among the wines and next to the DFH Fort. Yes, someone recommended a $1.35 bottle.Pour is much less skunky than the Konig Pilsner I rated previously, more of a Czech hop character. Pours a richer golden body, thinning head. Taste is mostly sweet, though, or perhaps that’s from the Valentine chockies my wife was popping in my mouth. Mouthfeel comes out a bit thin, though, and a promising Pils malt profile offers no hop support. No date on the bottle, but that’s the danger from import Pilseners: the good ones are hard to locate. But fails to live up to its good looks.

I think this is the first Czech beer I have had. Sadly it is not very impressive. Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer pours a dark golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is sour macro tang and skunk and the flavor is the same though a bit more sweet than I would have expected. Wholey uninspiring.

Draught, The Rover (Gothenburg, Sweden) on February 7, 2006.Nice dark amber color. Hoppy scent and fresh taste. Way better than the light colored one! Very nice white head.7/4/7/3/13=3.4

Draught, pint at Bishops Arms (Västra Hamngatan) Gothenburg on January 13, 2006.Clear golden color, balanced malt and hops in scent and flavor. Not the best Czech lager, but beats a lot of the other commercial ones out there.6/3/6/3/13=3.1

Pour is a bright yellow with a small white head. Aroma is slightly skunked and overpowers everything else. Flavor is bland and boring. Nothing really detectable. Not good and hard as hell to find in the data base.

Bottled. Ruby red colour, with almost no head. Sweet caramel, vegetables and hoppy aroma. Flavour is lightlt roasted malt, caramel and some unclean notes, almost like unclean tap, though it is bottled. Especially noteable in the aftertaste.

Bottled (BB 11/2006)
Light amber golden, small white head. Buttery, typical Czech slightly diacetylic nose. Malty, buttery, slightly diacetyl. Quite light, some oaky hops in the finish. Hard metallic aftertaste with some sweet maltyness and light hops.
