Description
Since 1996, we’ve been brewing in Blanco, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. When you get to make beer in a place like this, you develop a greater appreciation for the simpler things in life — fresh air, wide-open spaces, and working with your hands. We're proud to make beer with as little processing as possible. In addition to being unfiltered and unpasteurized, we never use preservatives or artificial colors. We start with water from the nearby Blanco River and the highest quality ingredients. Then we take the time to allow all the unique characteristics of the ingredients to shine. We believe doing less to the beer actually creates more complexity, aroma and flavor.

6 October 2022. At The Dooryard, San Antonio. Shared with the lovely Anke!

A: hazy black, small, foamy, beige head.
A: iodine, band-aid, soy, brandy, rum-soaked raisin.
T: sweet date & fig, chocolate, iodine, herbs.
F: herbal hops, medicinal notes, sourish coffee & citrus even; warming brandy-like alcohol.
P: medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation.
Tasty but not really balanced, too medicinal - perhaps way too young.

Ember draught, 10/31/22. Clear brass-blonde. Sizeable white head. Corn, glue, six row-like graininess, no hop light buttercream. Solid and clean other than the glue which I think just comes with the territory. Oh yeah, so much buttercream, nuttiness, rich corn, honey and a crisp, dry finish. The butter is absolutely divine. It's not diacetyl-derived, but reminds of English pale ales that do have a moderate amount of diacetyl, to their benefit. Clean, flavorful, crisp and creamy. Loved every sip.

Real Ale, pretty decent, hazy ipa, not as much. Let us see how it works out. I’ve got this 12 oz can that come from who knows where. Pouring inside of of a globe glass, let’s go. I see a regal gold liquid with a strong top of completely white foam. The nose is tropical and white bread. The drink, well, I’ll say it’s decently good for the style. Mango, perhaps some kiwi fruit, bread again, strawberries, a light touch of pine and malt. Not earth shaking but all right.

I’ve got a 12 oz bottle from the close-by HEB saying bb 8/31/22. Okay. Catching the pour inside of a tulip glass this evening, let’s proceed. I see a fully transparent, yellow-gold body with a bare cover of white foam. The smell, a nice yellow fruit, pine and grain. The drink, well, it’s pleasant. White bread, apricots, melon, a caramel sweetness, a bit of hoppiness and field. Decently bitter. Real Ale continues to be one of my favorite Texas breweries.

12 oz. can from HEB, Boerne, TX. Pours a clear light gold color with a white head and good retention. Almost no lacing. Standard pale malt aroma. More of a pale lager versus a Helles, IMHO. Apricot, peach and blackberry? Nope. The flavor is standard pale malt with maybe a hint of bread in the finish. Medium-light body. Clean and smooth. Any yes, crisp mouthfeel, yet not over-carbonated. Low bitterness. Nothing special, nothing bad. Just a good basic beer.
