I can appreciate a barley wine on its own but one double barrel aged? Bring it on. This 33 cl bottle came from the nice vendor at Smaakhuis back earlier in the year. Cooler weather recently, time to taste a challenging brew. A tulip glass in place, I make the pour. The body is a dark cola-colored liquid completed by a phenomenal head of parchment foam. I smell dark fruit, bread, malt and booze. I lift the glass and take a drink. Black plums, the red wine barrel, grain, dark cherries, syrup and alcohol. The bourbon is overwhelmed by the vinous presence, not my preferred direction. Still, this is a good barley wine, one to sip. High hopes not quite met.

Pale yellow and hazy with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some citrus notes and some clove. Reminds me of La Chouffe.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 11/2028, lot# L041/23. Profiter de ces Atrium suite à la fermeture malheureuse de la brasserie.
Brune foncée, col fin blanc-cassé.
Arôme sur un bouquet chargé en malts et ce caractère bien belge avec qcq légers esters - rétro fruits noirs et fève de cacao.
Palais donne de suite un cractère bien 'boozy' - chargé en malts - chocolat, caramel, toffee, grillé repris par un léger apport de fruits noirs plus que de la canneberge. Je pense plus à la mûre avec une pointe de sucre candi. Le côté belge donne en effet ce caractère hybride de stout/quadruple.

Clear orange beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: fruity, oxidized, some balsamic vinegar. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty oxidized, cardboard, sweet touch, pretty bitter. Aftertaste: lots of cardboard, sweet touch, pretty bitter. Aftertaste: lots of cardboard, oxidized, a bit malty, grains, gentle bitterness, a bit sugary, meh. Not very convincing.

A deep dark stout with no head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, coconut, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, loads of coconut cream, vanilla, very nice.

33cl can, BB 12/2025, batch# L045/23 partagée avec Tderoeck. Probablement dans les dernières bières de la maintenant défunte brasserie Atrium.
Dorée, col blanc crémeux.
Arôme est frais houblonné – herbacé et finement terreux, bouquet verdâtre et floral avec une petite rondeur de malt pisl en rétro-nasal.
Palais est sec axé sur les grains – pils, finement épicé avec une petite touche poudreuse. Frais au niveau des houblons – effet mentholé, léger épicé / poivre léger.

Little cloudy blond beige beer, big solid creamy white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, fruity, grains, hint of banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: a bit oxidized, fruity, gentle bitterness, malty. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, grains, malty finish.
