Description
«Atrium» is a Latin word meaning « entrance hall », a place from which we have access to other environments. The Atrium Brewery emanates from a passion for beer, from a strong will to attract other people towards a universe rich of stories, savors and flavors : this is what we are commissioned to do! Therefore we brew unconventional beers making use of high quality products only, carefully selected to lead to a unique sensory experience.

Draft at the Gravity taproom, Budapest. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, frothy, light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, light liquorice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, herbal, light sweet chocolate, boozy liquorice bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Draft at the Gravity taproom, Budapest. 7.2% Poured a slightly hazy yellow golden colour, with a big, lasting frothy white head. The aroma is big saison yeast. The flavour is dry yeasty, herbal, with a smooth, fresh, yeasty, earthy, light spicy, herbal palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A fine saison, but I prefer my saisons with a little carbonation, which this one didn’t have. It’s all about the yeast, which is probably very traditional, but not the best tasting beer for me.

Doppelbock flavoured with cherries – we are far removed from Germany’s Reinheitsgebot here, so I had no idea what to expect. Bottle at Gist in Brussels. Medium thick, moussey, shred-lacing, off-white head on a clear dark chocolate brown robe with coppery glow. Aroma of dry caramel, black cherries indeed but not overpowering, dried cherry peels and stones, autumn leaves, raisins, diluted coffee grounds, touch of ‘natural’ haemoglobin-ish iron, brown bread dough. Sweetish onset, clean and focusing on black cherry sweetness in a ‘dried’ kind of way (not even candied), hinting at blackberry jam a bit as well; full, oily body, softish carb, smooth hard-caramelly, brown-bread-doughy and eventually mildly toasty-bitterish maltiness with a hint of tea-like herbal hoppiness in the end as well as retronasal dried fruit (not necessarily cherry though) and warming madera-like alcohol. Somewhat odd top-fermented Doppelbock – more a fruited Belgian strong dark ale of sorts actually (and indeed brewed with decidedly non-German abbey ale yeast), but interesting, original and enjoyable.

0.33 l can shared with Ogi and Marko. Thanks! Unclear orange, small off-white head. Bit unusual for a pils. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, citrus, stone fruit. Underneath yeasty and doughy. Light body, moderate to high bitterness. Intensifies. Light fruity, citrus and grainy flavour. Bitter finish.

Can from somewhere in Prague probably, shared with Hrabren and Ogi. Hazy golden body, off-white head. Honey, herbal notes in the aroma, some earthy veggies edged by phenols. Lean, dry taste, very much dried out, some pleasant floral-herbal hoppy touches but also an earthy, bitter component by the finish, the 30 IBUs standing out more than expected due to the lack of body. Sadly, quite messy.

A golden beer, a head is quite big blond.Aroma has coffee, some green herbs, hint of vanilla. Taste has coffee, vanilla, some fruitness. Medium bodied. Quite weird, the balance could be better.
