Teme Valley Brewery
Microbrewery
in Knightwick,
Worcestershire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Talbot Hotel (Teme Valley)
Established in 1997
The brewery was first opened in 1997 by the Clift family. Annie and Wiz Clift ran The Talbot at Knightwick, Worcestershire while their brother Philip ran the family farm at Lulsley Court nearby. The Clifts had been growing hops since the 19th century and a logical progression of the farm and pub businesses was to brew beer from their own hops to sell in their own pub. In August 1997 the brewery equipment was installed behind the pub and in September 1997 Chris Gooch joined as brewer.

Cask, on gravity, at Tewkesbury Winter Beer Festival, 5/2/2016. Deep brown in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. Toasty malts, berry fruits, a touch of caramel, before a gentle finish. Good.

Live tasting, 500ml bottle conditioned: at home in the early hours of 7th Dec 2015: poured into a UK pint sleeve. Slight haze to the dull golden body, although I saw no sediment leave the bottle; on top a wisp and collar. Fruity nose and taste and a ’home brew’ sort of feel. OK, but not the best beer I have had from these guys by a long shot. Got a feeling I might have belly ache sometime very soon!

Bottle picked up from Hay Wines, Ledbury, Herefordshire. Consumed at home Saturday 7th November 2015. Pours gold but it is a little hazy. When you drink an Orval, then Brussels Beer Project Babylone and also Sierra Nevada Torpedo followed by this, it has to be said that this is found wanting a little in the flavour department, it’s fine just a rather ordinary beer that is a little thin and lacking in flavour a little, I guess it may be regarded as subtle I think thin and watery with a limited malt and hop profile. Cask at GBBF 2015, day 5 - London. Pours totally clear gold with a frothy white head. The nose holds grainy pale bread, slight leaves. Light sweet flavor with more grainy pale bread, leaves, faint caramel, orange rind. Light bodied with fine carbonation; decent condition. Finishes with alright balance, more grainy pale malts, lightly toasted sugars, dirty hay. Tasty beer. (August 2015, score: 3.4)
Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2017, day one - London. Pours clear yellow-gold with a frothy, white head. The nose holds crunchy grains, biscuits, hay. Lightly sweet with more biscuits, hay, rindy citrus. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with more pale grains, hay. So so. (August 2017, score: 3.2)
