Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Bottle sample @ 5de Brugs Bier festival.

Small off-white head over fully cloudy amber-orange beer. Grassy and herbal, bit insectoid aroma. Sharp toasted-herbal flavour, but finish is dry, and even a bit dull. Well-carbonated feel, bit sharpiish throughout. Interesting as a re-creation, but not really great. More of an easy drinking beer, a session saison.

4/II/2012 - 75cl bottle @ Brugs Bierfestival - BB: n/a (2012-83)

Little cloudy dark orange to amber beer, creamy off-white head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: little fruity, some (bretta?) sour, grapefruit, lime, bit bready, little sweet, some hay. MF: good carbon, light to medium body. Taste: nasty sourness, glue, bitter. Aftertaste: unpleasant bitterness, sour. If you ask me, this has been infected.

33 cl bottle @ Uusi Apteekki. Rated on 13.05.2011
Aroma is roasted with some cocoa and licorice. Flavour has lots of licorice with some coffee and belgian yeast. A Belgian version of foreign stout, I’d say. Good!

Labeled as simply Tournay (orange label) 7% ABV: Aroma is well funked, with coriander, sage, and basil. Cloudy golden, thick head, decent lacing. Medium body. Light malt, rice, funk. Decidedly un-fruity, which is a refreshing change from other blondes and saisons. Not real exciting, but flavorful and good. Remarkable for not containing additives.

Bottled. Near black, firm rocky head. Light floral aniseed aroma. Dryish and fruity with medium-full body and well rounded, lightly spritzy mouthfeel. Mild licorice and tobacco, salty with faint notes of marzipan. Velvetty finish with growing bitterness. Tasty and very elegant.

11/2 ounce bottle, Tournay Black label, from Wine Warehouse Charlottesville, VA, best by 05/12. Pours dark brown with a large fizzy, frothy head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, plums and other fruits. The taste is roasted malts, a tart herbal note, anise, coffee, faint fruits and a bitter hop finish. Interesting. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

0.33l bottle from Systembolaget, Passagen, Stockholm. I've got got a feeling that this is going to be black. Well, almost black it is, but more deep deep brown actually. The head is small and quickly fading into a thin film that's lacing some small sidesticking khaki lacings down the glass. Sweet chocolate paper and caramel-sweetness in the aroma. Also a hint of cardboard and dry hops. Quite lively carbonation level and the mouthfeel i disappointing watery and tame. That's a bit of a downer. Not to roasted, but still somewhat. Bitter chocolate in the flavor and some cold coffee as well. Ends more bitteish with some wet cardboard and a dry aftertaste. Sounds like I'm killing it in my rating, but it actually didn't taste that horrible - it's just that I had bigger expectations. OK and light drinkable "stout".
