Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Bottle. Black with a nice, large tan head. Roasted malt, licorice, coffee and dark fruits. Also notes of soap and yeast. Light body and almost a watery mouth feel. Not impressive.

Bottle bought on Systembolaget on September 1 and consumed September 4. Pours a dark brown liquid with a thick brown/white head. Smells of mature, almost old, sweet fruit like plums and grapes. Taste is sweet at first and carries some of the fruitiness of the smell but is quickly taken over by the bitterness and acidity of roasted malt and black coffee. There is also a yeastiness to the flavour that combines with the malt and reminds me of rye bread.

Draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas
Hazy deep blond color; creamy head. The aroma is a bit smelly, cheesy, more than elderflower. Smooth mouthfeel, light malt flavor, with some vegetables, herbs; low bitterness. Very strange.

33 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Black/very dark brown liquid with huge tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, ash, dark fruits, dark chocolate and belgian yeast esters. Quite nice. Taste is light to medium sweet and medium bitter. Malty flavour with notes of coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with ok carbonation. Good brew, balanced but it doesn’t stand out either.

Good, thick-set yellowish head, leaving shards of lace over orangeish golden beer. Malts; metallic, garden herbs. Sweet dough, dull malts, uninteresting flavour, old grains. Medium bodied, flavours (for as far as present) slowly fading. Not very exciting... Cazeau can do MUCH better!

Draught at  Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Rocky iceberg head on a bright gold beer. Citric, lactic, sourish nose, with yogurt, lemon, spice. Dry, dusty flavor of old lemons. Bitter, spur, and dry. Why? Bretty. Interesting but somehow strange.
