Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

From notes. Had a sort of off flavor that seemed rubbery. This hurt the beer quite a bit, and I think it was from the elderflowers not quite working with the hops well. A bit too yeasty in the finish. Kind of a musty grain flavor but not bad, really. Some funk.

Sampled on draft at house of 1000 beers this beer poured a black color with no head at all and no lacing. The aroma was tart vinegar, port wine and soy sauce. the flavor was tart and tangy with notes of vinegar, port wine and soy sauce. Long finish. Medium body but undercarbonated. Not good.

30/06/2011 75cl bottle @ Klaas' place - BB: 12/2012 (2011-292) Thanks to Satch for the bottle!

Pretty cloudy orange beer, white aery head, unstable and adhesive, nice lacing on the glass. Aroma: urine (!), citrus notes. Really, it's as if standing in a dirty men's toilet. MF: lots of carbon, light to medium body. Taste: fruity, sweet and sugary, a touch of geuze/bretta, some citrus notes, a bit of hops. Aftertaste: sour, more citrus. Not as bad as it smells, but man, you've got to get over the urine smell. To be honest though: not everyone in our company smelled it.

Freshly tapped at the house of 1000 beers. It was listed as Tornay Farmhouse Belgian, so I hope this is the right spot. This listing says in a bottle but reseaerch says "The Tournay is floral with a faintly bitter aroma; soft mouthfeel, straightforward, refreshing. This is the first beer made by the brewery since it re-launched commercial operations just a few years ago. The intent was to focus on perfecting a single blond ale before doing anything else. " Well, if it is 7.2% you’d never know. Big foamy impressisions from the tap. Slightly cloudy almost lemon yellow looken beer. Weird dirt and wet hay farmy thing going on here. Flat, yet interesting. Vague yet unique. A little bandaid comes in near the end of the session. Not a bad beer drinken experience.

Medium, very dense white head over hazed yellow beer. Gassy, greenmalt, garden herbs, fine green beans. Fresh, very malty taste, pure maltsugars, but very clean-tasting; fine spicy-herbal lining. Light to medium bodied, quite slick. Balance improves after some time. Nice beer, not too heavey, but it certainly shouldn’t turn out more sugary.

Bottled 330ml (Uusi Apteekki, BB 03/2011)
Dark brown color, good brown creamy head. Aroma is a bit medicinal with herbs, toasted malts and vegetables. Medium-bodied. Dark malts, coffee beans, vegetables and some light hoppyness. Quick oily, lightly toasted finish with hints of caramel too. Nothing special in this beer but it was anyway somewhat drinkable.

Deep amber/brown body with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and sweet brown sugar. Medium-bodied; Very sweet taste at first with a potent roasted malt primary tone with some light spice and a lot of sweetness on the finish. Aftertaste sweet and clean - nice for the style for sure. I sampled this beer on draught as 30 cL from Chez Moeder Lambic Fontinas in Bruxelles, Belgium on 01-January-2011 for €3,80.
