Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

330mL bottle, pours a near-black with a reddish tinge and with ample beige head. Aroma of sugar cane, artificially sweetened chocolate, slight roast and yeast - smells very Belgian. Flavour is very obscured by the insanely high carbonation, which would be more appropriate for a saison or tripel but not a stout. Anyways, flavours of candied sugar, cocoa powder, and lots of yeast. These Belgian stouts are always sketchy to me, with their very high carbonation, high yeasty content and odd flavours - this is no different. Nothing offensive, but too carbonated and yeasty to fit in a stout. Decent.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of blackcurrants and roasted malts. A little light for a stout but has flavors of dark malts and coffee grounds. Bitter finish with definite alcohol taste and heat.

11.2 oz. bottle, pours a hazy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma is dominated by yeast and wheat notes, with some light clove and candied sugar. Flavour mirrors the nose almost exactly, with the yeast dominating, with some notes of candied sugar, wheat and clove. Very high carbonation, though easy drinking nonetheless. Solid light Belgian ale.

Hazy and light amber colour with an off white head. A bit fruity and moderate sweet nose. Malty background with fruity, light citric and some spicy notes in the flavour. A bit to much alcohol coming through.

Very hazy gold beer, thick fluffy white head. Semi crisp and semi dry palate. Creamy lagerish malt with a little light yeast. Reasonable amount of hop snap providing some grapefruit. Well joined up. Decent if unspectacular.

Had it at Delirium in Brussels during Paul’s pre-wedding bro-down. Pours hazy, yellow-gold with a decent, white foam head. Nice beer. Good grassy bitterness, crisp crackery malts, medium sweetness. Medium bodied with average to lively carbonation. Pretty dry to finish, which is nice, with a crisp, refreshing pine edge and light grass notes. Some mild fruit, gum and bread as well. Nicely rounded beer overall.

Cloudy dark gold beer. Thick foamy white head. Light dry palate. Dry malt, some dry insipid fruit - orange and lemon. Dry soft finish. Struggling with this. Tired taste and palate.

33 cl. bottle @ Bier Circus // dark brown going to black with a very café au lait looking head (interesting) // smell reveals it having definitely too much yeast in it, malt, lightly roasted, coffee, plenty of cocoa, light hints of bitter coffee // yeast heavy taste, plenty of cocoa, more than coffee, small hint of liquorish & yeast, dark fruits, roasted malts heavy finish, hint of dark bread, some bitter milk chocolate // body is not very heavy & quite creamy // my boss compared it to Guinness, a cliché but he certainly did have a point, this is much better & less watery than regular Guinness
