Description
The first document attesting to a brewery in Cazeau is dated 17 october 1753. After 7 generations of family members running the brewery, the brewing ceased in 1969. In 2004, 35 years after the last brewing activities, Laurent Agache, 8th generation family member, started a partnership with his cousin and friend Quentin Mariage, to revitalize the brewery. They renovated the buildings and bought second hand equipment in the North of England. Currently, the brewery offers five beers with great character that are neither filtered nor pasteurized, all of which are refermented in the bottle.

If the brewery is keen on the traditional manufacturing process, it is nevertheless oriented towards innovation through a continuous search for new tastes so that beer aficionados will ever be surprised. At Brasserie de Cazeau, new typified hops, of various origins, are unceasingly tested and mixed in order to obtain beers with original, refined flavours.

Nice dark pour with creamy off white head. Nose is roasted caramel chocolate. Taste is caramel chocolate malt. I was hoping for a more full-bodied offering. Still, it’s very tasty and on the lighter side of winter saisons.

750ml bottle. Deep opaque black, massive rusty beige head, and lots of yeasty floaties. Sweet, sugary aroma..not unlike a Caribbean sweet stout. Lacks a traditional Belgian mouthfeel, but is still a quality beer. Sweet alcohol and pungent dark fruit tastes, with some mild chocolate tones. Sugary and rich, but still pretty drinkable with the moderate ABV. Relatively well balanced for the style, with a chalky bitterness. Pretty good.

Bottle, from trade with HenrikSoegaard. A gusher, producing an unclear, golden-orange body with some floaties and an off-white head soon diminishing into a layer of bubbles. Cellar, a lactic hint, pale malts and fruits on the nose. The flavor has a citrus peel bitterness, fruits and pale malts. Effervescent and medium bodied. Some bitterness in the finish. Sort of refreshing, but definately not the beer I would chose as my house beer. 091120

Bottle from Utobeer. Cloudy gold in colour, with a big, tight white head and plenty of carbonation. Light, wheaty aroma with some lemon and floral hops. Flavour of citrus fruits, spice and yeast with a dryish finish. Didn’t detect any elderflowers. Ok.

11.2oz bottle. Unfiltered brown color. Steady, long-lasting head. Funky, pungent. A little more ABV presence than your typical Xmas beer ( OK, so there is Scaldis/Bush). Good enough and enjoyable, but Id say substandard among most of It’s Belgian peers.

Bottled@The 1st Vaasa CS/ES beer session (thanks WK). Very deep ambery brown colour, close to black, mediumsized beigeish brown head that leaves nice lace. Aroma is roasted malts, some slight caramel as well as some mild spicing and yeastyness. Flavour is strongly malty (roasted and caramel with also some slight breadyness), mildly fudgelike notes as well as herbs and some slight nuttyness. Pleasantly balanced.
