Capped 750 from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours very dark copper (some might see it as brown if not held against the light) with a transient beige head. The aroma is slightly sour, exhibits a bourbon note, clearly expresses dark malts, but the rye! Maybe the name will be appropriate. Near full bodied. It starts sour, gets a bit bitingly sour, then some darkish malt turns it towards, sweet, and the rye is there! It finishes less than dry, towards a pleasant, sweetish? sour, and rye. Bourbon? Guess it’s still there, but the darkness with sour and rye is the main thing. Try this a bit warmer than most beers. Wow. I’m impressed.

Bottle at the Cads 10th Anniversary bash, thanks to Fergus, 29/03/15. Hazed golden amber with a decent light beige covering. Nose is earthy hops, biscuit, toffee, candied fruit peel, tea leaves, light pine. Taste comprises earthy hops, citric tinged straw, trace of pine, earthy, herbal qualities, mandarin, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with earthy hop bitterness. So so for style, seemed a touch jaded.

ChrisOs Easter Tasting. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Airy dark malts. A touch of paint, like it was barrel aged. Mild dry dark chocolate. Light dry finish with a dark chocolate linger. A bit chewy but okay.

Bottle at ChrisO, thanks to Fergus. It pours jet black with a decent tan head. The nose is earth roast, chocolate, mild acidity, bounty bar and salted caramel. The taste is roasted malt, earth, toast, ash, charred stuff, savoury feel and pepper with a drying finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Rather savoury... and not terribly drinkable.So-so.

Bottle at The Cad’s 10yr Shindig thanks to Fargus. It pours cloudy orange with a small white head. The nose is caramelised fruits, raisin, stewed orange, herbal, grassy, light menthol and orange sponge cake. The taste is bitter-sweet, big earthy character, grass, orange rind, caramel, toasty bread, sugar and varnish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Perhaps tasting a touch past its prime, but not too shabby anyhow.
