Description
Shane Swindells began Cheshire Brewhouse in 2012, but has been passionate about beer and the joyful sociability of pubs from an early age — ‘beer was special, it was the stitches that held the fabric of society together’. Home is the historic town of Congleton, where it is based on a small industrial estate in the Dane Valley, close to the greenness of Congleton Park. Using bespoke-made brewing kit that makes 2880 pints per brew, Swindells produces an award-winning and vegan-friendly range of beers that can be enjoyed in cask, keg, bottle and can. As well as its historic recipes, Cheshire Brewhouse produces a superb range of modern craft beers that resonate with the bright colours and tropical fruit aromas of American hops such as Citra and Amarillo as well as English varieties such as East Kent Goldings.

Gravity cask at the Birmingham Beer Bash, 2015. Poured a hazy amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is toffee caramel. The flavour is moderate to light sweet with a light watery treacle toffee palate. Light bodied with flat carbonation.

Very hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and crisp. Light dry malts, not that sweet. Floral bitterness and citric pith bitterness. Mild bubblegum ester. Dry finish. Not much in the way of hop fruits here, all dry bitterness. Lame.

Hazy amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and mildly crisp. Smooth and light pale malts, trace of creamy sweetness. Good Sorachi Ace hops, slightly more bitter than usual. Floral lemon and a little orange peel. A mild and well integrated herb. Smooth finish. Peel and lemon bitterness linger on. A most satisfying Sorachi hit.

Bottle from Corks Out, Chester. Golden-amber with a small frothy head. The hop is distinctive in this ale imparting a touch of grain in its taste which is quite tasty. Dry in the mouth. There’s some orange flavours in here too.
