Description
Shane Swindells began Cheshire Brewhouse in 2012, but has been passionate about beer and the joyful sociability of pubs from an early age — ‘beer was special, it was the stitches that held the fabric of society together’. Home is the historic town of Congleton, where it is based on a small industrial estate in the Dane Valley, close to the greenness of Congleton Park. Using bespoke-made brewing kit that makes 2880 pints per brew, Swindells produces an award-winning and vegan-friendly range of beers that can be enjoyed in cask, keg, bottle and can. As well as its historic recipes, Cheshire Brewhouse produces a superb range of modern craft beers that resonate with the bright colours and tropical fruit aromas of American hops such as Citra and Amarillo as well as English varieties such as East Kent Goldings.

Tap at the Birmingham Beer Bash 2014. Poured a light hazy straw colour with a bubbly white head. The aroma is plastic light malt. The flavour is light bitter with a watery plastic palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Can’t say I enjoyed this.

Lightly hazy amber beer, untidy pale cream coloured head. Palate is dry and crispy. Light dry malt. Mild floralness, very slightly soapy. Dry grapefruit bitterness, whisper of generic fruits. Light dry finish. Dry but passable.

Bottle shared on the London Bimble 26/04/2014. Thanks to Leighton. Clear golden coloured pour with a loose white head. Aroma is lavendar, berry hop, hedgerow. Flavour is berry, some soapy notes. Nice clean frement, solid base malt with a touch of biscuit. Grassy finish is nice.

Very hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is airy and a little dry. Good fine carbonation. Fairly sweet malt, maybe a bit too sweet when combined with the sweet floralness of the Motueka. Touch of ripe orange. Smooth finish. Bit sweet overall but okay.

Bottle from StarmoreBoss, Sheffield. 5.0%. Hazy, amber colour. Sticky, bubbly, white head. Tropical fruit and raspberry on the aroma. Grainy maltiness. Light citrus. Taste is light dry, and fairly bitter. Palate is fairly full bodied. Some sweet chewiness. A light mineral dryness provides balance. Lingering, bitter finish. Expected a bigger hop aroma, though.
